Just an update, lest anyone think I'm slacking off.

I got a quote from the local laser cut place and don't think it's going to work. With such a small part, they wanted to just run a standard size sheet of aluminum in the machine, which results in 552 pieces and a total price tag well in the thousands, and that's before anodizing. So, unless anyone wants to underwrite hundreds of these things, I think I'll give one of the online machine shops a try. It will be more per piece I'm sure, but still within the range of acceptable per-piece prices. Only downside is I can't see them before they are made...

Thanks for trying Tom! As an option maybe you can just get them bare metal and let the buyers paint them, to help keep the price down.

Sorry to hear the cost of getting them made skyrocketed!
I am not in favor of NOT getting them anodized. I painted the plastic ones with a black flex type paint from Home Depot and it didn’t last after putting them on and off several times. I then talked to a couple paint shops, and they would not do a handful of pieces. Needed at least 100 or more-ideally more than that.
You said “thousands of dollars” to make a batch? That’s a vague number. What was the exact price for how many, and how much extra to anodize them? Maybe I can find someone or a group of people to subsidize the cost. I need an exact number.

Yeah, after all the work that has been involved in this, I hate to see it not complete. There must be a machine shop that can make these for us and as I said, we can paint them ourselves, or do what I did and wrap them with Satin Black vinyl, which is available from numerous online places.

No worries, I was just explaining the passage of time. We'll get it done.

I'll plan to do them in raw 1/8th aluminum (no anodizing/paint, etc.). Should simplify things quite a bit.

Cool! And they should be 1/16" thick - was that a test? LOL!

Sure, let's say it was a test.

1/16th for sure.

I just got a message from Tom so I will post here until Tom has a chance to chime in. He was able to find a place to make them for us, out of aluminum and 1/16" thick, which eliminates the warping problem with the plastic ones. In order to get this price ($30 + shipping) they will not be anodized or painted but as I said, any Satin Black spray paint will do, or Satin Black vinyl from Michaels, Hobby Lobby, eBay, etc. Thanks Tom!
