Many thanks to this thread.
On my 86 NA, I was planning on changing the Oil Cooler gasket, due to an oil leak. With the car running it was leaking a drop every two minutes. The drop would appear on the OPRV nut, it was originating from deeper at the gasket.
I had planned on using the original OPRV, but based on this thread I decided to get the retrofit OPRV.

Ok - I hope I don't somehow jinx myself.
Two days in a row now and my leak from the front of the engine is gone. I still have to replace an oil pump line but that is easy peasy compared to the other (I can see it!!)
So I am not EXACTLY sure what finally did the trick. In our last episode, you may recall that I had removed the lower balance shaft nosepiece again. I used the baby powder trick suggested by MM. Upon reinstall, I used a new o-ring I had as well as a new mylar seal on the balance shaft. I also used Yamabond on all of the sealing points I could see between the oil pump and block.
One of those things did the trick. No leaks - now to get it the suspension and steering back together and get it on the ground - time to resume tuning!
Thanks all for ALL the help and thinking through!

Did the oilpan yesterday after seeing oil around the gasket. Not my favourite job for sure the OP that assembled this engine somehow managed to strip 5 threads so no wonder it was leaking. I did a hack job and installed longer studs in place of the bolts with broken threads . I need

to helicoil these holes next time the block is on the stand. Just no room for drilling with the engine in car
Had to check the rod bearings while in there and decided to leave them as they looked to be the black ACL bearings with no wear.
After installing my “hack” with loktite on the threads it all bolted up nicely with the normal 8nm torque.
Now I noticed the lower balance shaft cover has stripped threads too . Going to delete those and maybe anchor that with studs.
PO spent big bucks at the machine shop with this engine. To bad he skimped on a torque wrench
