Hi Tom And guys/Gals
I'm Eric Lopez I'm in Canton, GA Been a BMW guy for ever, decided to jump to the upside recently. Always loved Porsches. My favorite is the 993 Turbo. I do have a place in my heart for the 930, especially the slant nose. I owned many Bimmers, i3, 328i, X5M, 335i, '09 M3 which I still own and a '14 535i, which also still own.
Anyways, back in August I decided to order my first Porsche, Had an order for a 2022 Carrera 4 S. I was waiting on allocations. In late September I was offered an allocation for it and I declined, which would have made my car in that ship that caught on fire. So when Porsche released 900 allocations, my SA called me with actually even better news than what I thought. He said that he had an allocation for a Carrera 4 GTS, and they wanted to offer it to me. So I agreed, got my allocation and the rest is history. Getting build hopefully this week for a May 13th delivery. Cross my fingers.
I work for Siemens, been with them for 29 years now. I started on the shop floor and moved my way up the ladder without a degree. I support the SAP software, which is what customer service uses to enter orders. Also, going to school to finish my degree, since I cannot move up anymore without a degree. I have a 6 year old little girl, that is my world and she loves Porsches, she is happier than me about me getting my GTS. So hopefully will have pictures up soon in a few months.
Thank you.
Eric

We are almost neighbors - I live in Gainesville.
Like you you I've owned multiple BMW's - I presently have a 135i cabriolet.
I must say my new Porsche is a "little" bit of an improvement
Hope to see you around Georgia.
Kevin

Hey, Eric, welcome. My son lives in Canton. I have an air filter that should fit your 535, we had a '13 535 that we traded last year for a '20 540. I'll bring it the next time I come over to see my grandsons and maybe you can get it from him. Bill

Thank you guys for making feel welcomed. I love this forum, it really reminds me of the E90 M3Post, a forum for all Bimmers. It grew too big, I still go there because of the tech stuff for the Bimmers that I still own. Anyways, can't wait to get my new Porsche.

Hi all,
My name is Jay. I'm a long-time RL member, now looking for better places to hang out with Porsche enthusiasts online. I recently dusted off my 951 project car after a long hiatus and am currently working on getting it started on Microsquirt. I also have a 2012 Cayman R which I describe as my fun car that I don't take apart (well, at least not often). I'm also a retro-computing enthusiast, with a small but growing collection of DEC PDP-11s.
I retired a couple of year ago (yay!), and now split my time between San Jose, CA and Palm Springs. But most of my wrenching happens in my very small garage shop in San Jose.
Happy to be a member of the community!

Hey Jay -- welcome to Carpokes! Very happy to have you hear. I think you gave me an old DME once (before they added the chip to condition the speed and ref sensors), right? Super happy to have a fellow hacker type on Carpokes --athough, if I recall, you are the real deal, whereas I'm a real hack.
Not sure specifically what prompted you to look for a better place, but we started Carpokes to get back to the days when Porsche forums were run by and for true car fans, without endless ads, caustic politics, guns, planes, watches, trolls, bullies, or snake oil.
p.s. if you have any good pictures of that Cayman R, we'd love to see them. It's the most memorable version/color of that car I've ever seen.
And we need a good microsquirt thread.
p.p.s., I was Tom M'Guinn on RL....

Thanks for the kind words Eric. I'm hoping we grow, but never lose our community-first ethos....elm310 wrote: Tue Mar 15, 2022 7:30 pm Thank you guys for making feel welcomed. Thanks, Tom! I very much remember you, both from RL and when we met.
As to how I came to be here, I was poking around RL today when I ran across a post stating you were no longer there and ultimately leading me to notonrl. After reading about all that nonsense
And thanks for the compliments on my hacking prowess, although I think I'll continue to count myself a novice at least until I get the Microsquirt running.
Cayman photos coming up...
