Once APR or Unitronic, etc. figure out the newest DSG and can develop a TCU tune I'll consider a Stage 1 tune for both ECU and TCU after I get some miles built-up. In the meantime, I may just install an upgraded intercooler since all the tunes say you need that to obtain the rated power increase.

For now, I just have a few minor mods on my 5-week-old R: custom front and rear license plate brackets, Porsche "turbo" script carbon fiber plate frames, gas hood strut, VW warning triangle to fill the ugly void in the hatch, and low-profile Euro rear outside headrests.

Next, I'll implement full Matrix Headlight capability and auto lane change. All the hardware is present in 2023 Rs, it just needs to be coded, which in my case will be done remotely.

I can't really comment on ultimate performance yet as I'm only halfway through the break-in, so haven't exceeded about 5,000 rpm and no full throttle. Still, the R does feel "lively," ha, ha.

It's interesting that a 2023 Golf R and a 944 S2 or 951 are both 168.9 inches long.

Not for my car yet since APR says: "Most vehicles with a build date of 01/2022+ are not currently compatible due to a locked TCU." My car was built in April, 2023. I'm in no rush as both ECU and TCU upgrades most likely void the warranty, but APR does offer a warranty along with their Stage 1 tune, as long as you use all APR hardware.

Good point. This thread went from license plate mounts to Golf R to Golf R review to Golf R tuning. 🥹 I apologize for being involved in derailing this thread.

Shame on you Larry! Lol. The thread had gone off the tracks a slight bit but so what - maybe it ends up being a good thing - the thread had died somewhat until recently, so maybe a bit of notoriety will help revive the notion that the mounts are available and how fantastic they are. (Plus, the cars discussed while off the rails were pretty cool!)

Back to the mounts - they are fabulous! Don't go without them. My plates are off and on a LOT and without Tom's mounts I'd have a holy holey bumper!

Originally, I posted info about using the 718 license plate mounts on my Golf R since I knew Tom was interested, but then, the thread got hijacked for a few posts. When I have more to say about performance, etc. as requested by fearless leader, I'll post in the O.K. Corral.

Back to the regularly scheduled (boring) discussion :)

A few innocuous side trips, especially on an otherwise inactive thread are perfectly fine imo. They are often interesting in their own right and also natural progressions from original intent posts.

Conversations! I like 'em! Huge difference from intentional hijacks. I enjoyed this particular diversion.

Ok, back on topic...

Tom's original post on this thread from August 2021 - yikes that's been awhile!
