Hi Marc. Welcome to the group! ARRRRRRRGH! A Dino 246GTS! Another of my unfulfilled dreams in life! I could have acquired one back in the early 70s for a ridiculous price (by today's standards) but was at the time just a poor working prole in the snakeoil biz. Two of my 'dreamcars' alluded to above included the Dino and the Porsche 904, each of which bore a remarkable (if superficial) resemblance to each other. [The third in my personal alternate dimensional troika reality was the 550A.] However, due to the press of life's reality, I've learned to settle on the 914 series as my sole focus, now that I'm retired. I still regret having divested myself of a lovely '70 914/6 but now dote on a somewhat tamer but still mightily pleasing '74 914/4. I like to laugh about being 'an entry-level human with an entry level Porsche' but that's probably being a bit too self-effacing. At any rate, I am envious of your Dino. PS: The '86 911 Targa is a great little beast...your son obviously shares your good taste!

We all have car stories. The car bug was passed down from my father. He got a '71 Alfa GTV after I got out of high school. Well, this was the coolest thing ever. A REAL sports car? An Alfa Romeo, no less!! Wow!! I first saw a Dino as an undergrad in college. I had no idea what it was but thought that it was beautiful and some day I'd have one. Well, fast forward a bunch of years. Life was good and I decided to bite the bullet. The Dino maven just happened to be in my town. I went to his warehouse and thought that I died and went to Dino heaven. Floor to ceiling Dino's and parts. One thing became another and I ended up buying one. Little did I know that it would appreciate in value as much as it has. Now, 37 years later, my grands enjoy going for a drive in it with Pop-Pop. The GT4 was a spur of the moment decision. Oh, I have not regretted it for one nanosecond. My poor son has grown up with cars. He got the bug early. The '86 Targa he has was for sale in our old neighborhood. He couldn't resist. The rest is history.

Yes, indeedily-do! That's also quite an anecdote about how you came into possession of the Dino. I can't even get my mind around 'ceiling to floor Dino parts!' Mind-bounce: I was a great fan of the Tom Selleck TV series MAGNUM PI (before Selleck sold out to cheap home reverse-mortages marketing in his geezer dotage), but especially his Ferrari 308GTS. This despite that in reality, anyone with as high a profile as Selleck's character had in that series would never be have been caught dead driving such a recognisably exotic machine as the 308. However, I always felt that a Dino 246GT would have been a far more appropriate choice for Selleck's character (recognising that the 308 was actually a 'borrowed' Robin Masters' car).

I've had many other dream cars, including the Lotus Super-7 (Catterham, et al), which I first took a fancy to as a fan of the Patrick McGoohan THE PRISONER tv series. That's really my concept of a REAL sports car...you just basically strap on a hyper-powered engine, buckle-in and put the foot through the firewall! No side-curtains, no heater, no luxurious upholstery appointments...just bare get-up-and-go! Ditto for the 550, of course, but I was a child of the 50s, back when 'old school' was the norm and that probably also helps explain, partially, my attraction to the 914.

I agree that it is/was too bad that Tom Selleck sold his soul, but I guess that is life. Gee, you think they had him drive the 308 because it blended in with his TV persona? Uh, right. How about a way to get motor-heads to tune in to the show. A lotus Super 7? You shoulda gotten one! That would have been a hoot to motor around in. On occasion, I see one show up at a Cars and Coffee event. They still garner a lot of attention. You mentioned the 914. One of the cars my dad considered was a 914-6. He wanted that 6 cylinder. I do not recall why he passed on it and got the Alfa instead.

Ok, so my formative years were in the 60's. I still appreciate good, old, classic sheet metal, whether it be foreign or domestic. I would have given my eye teeth for a '63 split window Vette. Who wouldn't have? Ah yes... Those days.

Oops! Not 'Marc', but Dr. Dino! Thousand pardons, Sahib! My age is revealing itself more and more frequently, these days! Speaking of 'Cars & Coffee', I once had Jerry Seinfeld's show 'Two Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee' producer call me up and tell me that Jerry wanted to 'borrow' my 'replica' VW kubelwagen' for an episode. The deal (as he explained it) was that I would drive the car down to Hollywood and 'let Jerry use it for a week or so' on his show. No remuneration or even coverage of costs incurred was mentioned, so the presumption appears to have been that I would be so awestruck to have Jerry Seinfeld use my car that I'd show up on his (Hollywood) doorstep, drop off the car and genuflect a few times, as well. That REALLY got up my nose, so I told him "Thanks but no thanks." Despite Jerry's having one of the truly premier Porsche collections extant, and despite my enjoyment of his wit, that was presuming a bit too much for me! I thus bypassed my '15 minutes of fame' window of opportunity (not that I regretted it in the LEAST!). The car was somewhat unique, since I was a member of a WW2 Luftwaffe histerical (sic) reenactment group that performed at various airshows, and we used it as our geschwader staffel Kommandanteurwagen. Sic transit gloria mundi!

Hi, I joined because of the 3d printing files for wheel alignment! Also a big fan of porches, but do not own one. I do have a RR toyota MR2 though!

Welcome and no worries as Blueline said. Just go through the different groups to gain some background on possible issues and how the members of the group address those issues. There is a lot of knowledge and ingenuity here that can only help you when you make the move to buy your first Porsche.
