Jim Blakewell, Oklahoma City. Bought my 1973 911 T Sepia Brown Sunroof coupe new in October 1973 and drove it hard every day. Mag case motor leaked so built 2.8 L carburetored/S cams. Autocrossed a bunch! Built a 914 tub racecar and raced SCCA for years: 6th at Road Atlanta in '83, rolled it in '84. Had a tube-frame 914 and got 2 2nds and 3 3rds in runoffs at MidOhio.
I bought a nice Signal Orange 914 from Bob Hess, put the 2.8 motor in it and put 3.2L Carrera S in the '73. Inherited a '64 Slate Grey 356 SC Coupe from ex-wife in 1995. Bought and restored a 1960 Condor Yellow Roadster. Still have all 4 cars and twin 14 year olds and wife. Busy!
Porsche Parade coming to Okc July 5th. I hope to meet many of you here!

Good to have another Midwesterner on the site and your name sounds very familiar, likely because I have been an SCCA member since 81, though not racing Porsches.
Welcome,

Hello Carpokers
My name is Phil and I love Porsches (and most cars). I bought my first Porsche at 18years old while a senior in high school. It was a 1963 356B Convertible, complete rust bucket, the top didn’t work, but it was fun. My daily at the time was a $500 1968 VW Bus (Green).
Fast forward to today, I still love aircooled cars. They bring back such great memories and are so enjoyable to drive.
I am living up in the Pacific Northwest (Bellingham WA). I hope to learn and contribute. If I can inspire the younger generation to own a Porsche, I will consider that success
.
Cheers everyone !

Tom, kudos to you and your team for developing this site. Respectful Forum for those who appreciate the PORSCHE history and experience driving our crafted automobiles.
“Whatever happened to days when two PORSCHE drivers come upon one another and Blink Their Headlights… a sign of respect and appreciation for mutual enjoyment of the drive?”
Since a small boy (born 1945) I started drawing airplane, boats and cars. In the early 50’s I became fascinated by the PORSCHE. My father and I would sit on a mound watching Road Racing on a track now iconic Torrey Pines Golf Course, La Jolla California.
My first car was what I referred to as ‘my PORSCHE Trainer’. VW bug. Abarth exhaust split rim chrome wheels.
College and work stress release came through my long time friend Dick Barbour (Dick Barbour Racing) Dickie took me under wing, pit crew, driving and engaging events at Holtville with San Diego Region PCA.
My 1st owned PORSCHE came in 1973. I enlisted in USAF in 1963… I gave my VW to my widowed mom to sell and help with her expenses. When I honorably discharged from the military and returned home.., my mom had a surprise for me; Guards Red ‘63 356 Coupe.
My stable of PORSCHE have been the ‘63 coupe and co-owned / raced a Speedster. Graduated to a 912, then the Carrera… and recently (because my wife encouraged me ‘you have 1 more PORSCHE in you’ )…, 2013 Boxster.
I still attempt ‘blinking my highbeams’… all I get is an ignored look, or flipped off.
I refer to these people as “label drivers” not PORSCHE Enthusiasts.
Thank you for the opportunity to join this group. G2

A very warm welcome to you G2! I still flash my lights too.
On twisty roads in the hills, I get a return flash maybe half the time. Around town, not so much...

For G2
Good for you for having kept a Porsche over the years. I was born in 1942 and only acquired my first Carrera 996 2005 in 2012. Not my first car by any means. Actually the first car I bought was a 1955 Sunbeam Talbot Mk III. I got it from a friend of mine who unfortunately had an accident with it. I got it for $75.00 which was $5.00 more than he was offered by the junk yard. It cost me an additional $400. in parts to get it on the road. I eventually traded it for a TR-3. I really should have kept the Sunbeam though. I too have always had a wish for a Porsche. It is currently in storage for the winter but April 1st is not too far away and I can't wait to get behind the wheel. I envy you living in California where you can drive your Porsche 12 months of the year. Here in Toronto ON Canada, it is best to put it away from November 1st to April 1st. But it sure makes the winter seem long.
Have fun with your car.
