New GT4 RS Delivery

Do you still have the 992 3RS?

No, changed that last month after a year of ownership for a Ferrari 296 GTB.
I got some stick from some of the local PCA guys but I've been a fan of the 296 since it launched so I'm really happy with it.

The 296 is stunning in person! Ferrari did an awesome job with that v6

Nice! (Well, losing the 3RS is sad but gaining the Ferrari is a fine replacement. )

I found I wasn't driving the 3RS much. It's an amazing machine but should be on the track which I wasn't going to do.
My GT4 is setup for the track (camber, brakes, etc.) so that's what I track for HPDEs.

I've been on a journey of discovery when it comes to racing. Lots of sim racing over the last few years with PCA.
Then went to my first HPDEs and quickly found that I really wanted to race but didn't know if it was for me.
Didn't know how I'd react with other cars on the track racing with me.

I attended a race school at VIR about a month ago and that fully confirmed to my how much I love racing and I'm actually pretty comfortable in a race setting. I've got my race license now .

I bought a 71 BMW 2002 race car to do vintage racing and I may get a newer race car to do other series.

That brings me back to the 3RS. The 3RS doesn't do well as a road car IMO.
It's more race car than road car so it's a little on edge which put me on edge too.
As I have the GT4 RS now which I think is a better balance between road and track there was even less chance I was going to drive the 3RS.

The 296 is an amazing road car. The first time I drove it I felt so comfortable in it, like I'd owned it for a while.

That's the long answer to why I don't have the 3RS anymore.

You sound like me when I bought my GTR…. I felt so at home with it, was like I have owned it for years. Never selling it, ever!

Thanks! Yes, it was so weird. I told the sales guy when we came back from the test drive that it totally felt like I'd owned it for years.

Great response Sean, so thanks for taking the time to fill in the blanks. I knew you were diving further into track days and racing, so congrats on the dedication and the advancement.

To that point, you are absolutely correct on the 3RS. That's a lot of car to risk playing with DEs. It's kind of why I didn't take the allocation for the 4RS because I knew I'd want to modify it a bit so that I could put it on track. I thought about the value of the car then thought about the extra I'd spend getting it to where I'd want it to be for track and then reconsidered and thought, why? Like you I have a great track car with the GT4 that has been set up extremely well for track days so why switch, especially at this point in my life. (You also make a valid point that the 4RS is a bit more tame for street driving vs the 992 3RS cars which are definitely out there and a bit high strung for much street use.)

As for your racing exploits, well that's fantastic. Keep on moving ahead! Our team with our little E36 called it quits last year but we had fun for several years in ChampCar and WRL so it's all good.

Now, on to the Ferrari 296 GTB...drop dead gorgeous! Congrats and have fun (as I know you will).
