Also, for my 88 944 base, do i need the spanner wrench, thin wrench and flywheel lock tools? Or are there clever work arounds?

Im also changing the water pump?

Thin wrenches are in the 'very nice to have' category, but you can get away without them if you have a well stocked tool chest. You need a flywheel lock to get the front pulley off (don't try to 3D print it, it won't be strong enough.). The balance shaft pin-wrench is a near-necessity to get the b/s sprockets off. We have one you can 3D print for the job.
