- 1980 Renault R5 (surprisingly nice little car, sort of a spritual sucessor to the Citroen 2CV)
- 1984 Mk1 GTI (loved the non-assisted steering, best I've driven)
- 1988 Mk2 16v GTI (much better engine now, but they added power assist and tossed out the great steering feel)
- Decades-long dry spell of Jettas, Audis, and Rabbits (school, kids, work)

- AP2 S2000 (nutter engine let down by the DOA steering)

EDIT: I forgot my daily, a 2013 Acura TSX Sportwagon. Should have been called the Wagon GT. Loves to eat up the miles.

"Decades-long dry spell" - I guess also defined as a time where much sort of blends into a bit of obscurity. (Kind of like much of what I dis-remember!Tom_N wrote: Thu Nov 09, 2023 10:54 am - 1966 Caddy Sedan DeVille (das boat)

The Nova SS is curious. I always believed the auto 2 speed was reserved for the bottom feeder 6 cylinder Biscaynes and such. Sounds like an awful match up.iguana wrote: Fri May 05, 2023 11:03 pm In order:
- 1967 (used) Chev Nova SS. 283 V8 w/ 2 barrel carbs. 2-speed Powerglide transmission. Never in the right gear, and ran about 2.5 hours per tank of gas. Let's just say range anxiety with EVs has nothing on this.
- 1989 (new) Chev Beretta GTZ. The engine was pretty impressive for its day.
- 1992 (new) Honda Civic hatch. Base model, no options. Seriously impressive gas mileage, got 960 km on a tank on a road trip.
--- skipping the minivan years ---
- ???? (used) Honda Civic hatch. This one had the variable valve timing. And, more importantly, air conditioning.
- 2004 (new) Subaru WRX. In World Rally Blue. Loved this car. OTS Cobb tune, straight pipes. Light, nimble and decent power. Blew up the first engine at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Would probably still be driving this car if someone didn't steal it.
- 2015 (new) Subaru STI. On paper, a better car than the previous WRX. Definitely more refined, and likely quicker on a track. But lacked the character and soul the WRX had.
- 2018 (used) 991.2 C4S. Finally stepped up. Great all-round car. Had everything I loved about the WRX, just amplified. And layered on top a bit of interior luxury. Only had this car for a year as an interim while I was waiting for an allocation for the car I really wanted, which was ...
-- 2023 (new) 992 C4GTS. Feels like this car is the one I've been waiting for my whole life. Lots of luxury (full Agave leather interior, e.g.) but more importantly, proper performance. Every input gets a sharp and immediate response. Still learning about her character - she's only tried to kill me once - but it is as demanding as it is deep. Looking forward to some track days.

That V8 Gremlin must have been a handful. Our family had one with an Audi I4: it would spin in the wet like a dervish.WillyDaP wrote: Sun Sep 10, 2023 6:35 pm This could be interesting since my wife commented to friends the other day that I was so addicted to getting vehicles that early in our marriage I could no longer buy any more cars without getting a " Dealer's License " but here goes. My first car I bought when I was 18 after saving up from the time I started working a 15. I got it after I graduated HS in 1970 and it was only one year old.

28. 1989 Mazda Protege Lt. Gold
29. 1989 White Pontiac Formula 350 auto
30. 1990 Pontiac Bonneville Bronze
31. 1990 Red Miata
32. 1994 Black Miata
33. 1992 Bonneville Light Blue
34. 1994 Black Dodge Neon, manual
Here was somewhat of a stopping point for reality, because in 1994 I got back into the car business and this meant every time a great lease came out, or a new model, or a whim, or I was consumed by newcaritis we had something else in the garage, so since this is taxing my brain, I will list models of various machines we ended up getting and finally I will list our vehicles in the garage as of today.
2 PT Cruisers Turbos ( 1 manual, 1 auto ), Jeep Liberty, Ford Expedition ( 2 ) , Chrysler Sebring, Chrysler 200, Ford Fusion, Silver Chrysler SRT8, 3 Jeep Grand Cherokees, 2 Dodge Ram Diesels, Blue Ram 1500 CrewCab, Silver Dodge SRT10 P/U 2dr. 6 speed, 1998 Red Viper GTS, 2000 Black Viper GTS, 2003 Silver Viper convertible, 2004 Yellow Viper , 2006 Red/White Viper GTS, 2008 Venom Red Viper ACR, 2001 Yellow S2000, 1990 Civic HB engine transplant for the track, 3 White Spec Miatas ( 90,91, 92 ), 1992 White Escort GT, 2012 Boss 302 Comp. Orange, 2013 Boss 302 in School Bus Yellow, 2013 Boss 302S ( #18 of 50 factory built race cars ), 2017 White Shelby GT 350, 2021 Silver Mach 1 with the Handling Package,, Black Chrysler 300 AWD............................
I know I missed something, but I have slowed down a lot in recent years and I am sure it will be that way in the future as I am now retired, The garage currently holds the following :
1. 2022 Ram 1500 4x4 Laramie Crew Cab in Silver
2. 2013 Viper GTS Blue with White stripes ( Launch Edition )
3. 2020 White Macan S
4. 2024 Chalk Cayman GTS with full CF buckets and a PDK
Sure I wasted a lot of money on vehicles but I was selling for 4 years early in my life , and then later I spent another 27 in automotive sales, so please have some compassion, it is hard to be sensible when you work in the " Candy Store " every day, ha!

I was into performance tires way back then and had some oversized meats on the back of the Gremlin --- that little monster whipped up on some supposedly faster cars back then. What is funny is we often hear folks and writers talk about those fast cars ( muscle cars ) from back then and a base Boxster would destroy most of them today. Heck, my wife's Macan S would outrun 90% of those so called Muscle Cars.
I often tell younger friends to look up old acceleration times for vehicles like GTOs, SS 396s, Trans Ams, Mustang Mach 1 Cobra Jets, etc. Not that I didn't love all those cars growing up, but many are surprised that a fast time for most of those machines was a low 14 second quarter.
We live in a " Golden Age " of horsepower , regardless of what manufacturer we favor and I think our kids or grandkids will look back at the past 3 decades as the real era of " Muscle Cars."

Chev obviously had gone to the trouble of mating it to a small block V8, but the 3-speed came along pretty quickly after the 2-speed. The 2-speed was basically bulletproof (twice mine got dropped into reverse while at highway speeds without any ill effect!) And could take a phenomenal level of torque. Popular with the drag racing crowd. Perhaps the original owner had optioned it with that in mind.

Vitamin C ( C for cars , as that is obviously your vitamin of choice ).
Great job, and I wish I had pictures of all my past toys. I do have quite a few of the later ones on my phone, but what a great recap of all your beasts. A Mini is a car my wife and I always considered but have never owned. I have had numerous opportunities to autocross friend's Minis and they are still, in my mind, one of the most entertaining machines to wheel around in.
