Not sure if any of you 718 guys are following my 944 Dashboard removal thread (go to the video at the end to see the dash come off), but Classic 9 were the ones who leather-covered the replacement dash shown in post #6 here:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=262

I got that dash from someone who commissioned it, then couldn't complete his project. Classic 9 did a great job, so totally understand why you'd recommend them. However, we have our own mini-celebrity leather guy here on Carpokes in @Crazy Eddie and he's already at work on leather wrapping the 992 bezels.... He's also a good friend and local, and if he can't do it, and do it great, I suspect it can't be done... :)

I have a busy next couple of days, but the next step on the bezel I modeled is to add the little clips inside, so it will clip into the factory part. That will be the trickiest part and will probably take a few tries. Also, fingers crossed this plastic is strong enough for those little clips not to snap off.

But have no fear. We're Carpokes dadgummit -- we'll get it done against all odds. ;)

Keep up the good work, and you recommend Eddie as a first point of contact for leather work I agree we should take that advice! Personally, I want mine to be Satin Black to match the other pieces I did but leather would look good!

Been plugging away to make sure the basic profile and dimensions are identical to the factory unit. The real trick will be getting the little clips to work without having the car handy for trial and error. Still might take a few tries, but I've added in clips that are mighty close to the originals. Hard to measure all the contours directly, so creativity is a must.

Amazing job Tom! If you want to send me a few variations to try when you get them completed feel free (and don't forget the little rectangular plate I want)! No rush!

Would you want a painted replica of the factory part, like I'm doing for Bob Z, or a clip-on cover like that ones we did for the 992? I'll end up with both if all works as planned, but curious which might be more popular....?

I would want a satin black clip on. If I went through the process of removing the original, I would just paint it.

Good point. I'm guessing most would feel the same, although I'm also going to do the hooded version for Bob to cut down on the glare. But no reason I couldn't add a hood to the clip on version either. In fact, I could see people keeping them in the glove box to clip on at night if the glare starts to bug them...
