Tom: I’m waiting for the next iteration, but would buy a set of these if it’ll support your R&D.
No worries at all. The R&D on these will make additional one-offs much much easier, so time well spent either way. Very much appreciate the support, but no need to buy this version unless you want them and intend to use them!

HI @Tom
Love this look. I am just wondering if any issues with reflections while driving?
Have never been a fan of the rings people have sold for ever but these really do give it that old school factory look and should be much better then the factory plastic. I have new electo-illuminescent set of custom gauges, so brightness from light tunnels won't be an issue, and it should make for a very nice custom set up when I am done. Brilliant idea btw

Should offer a combo with the gauge rings and led strip conversion……just sayin lol

That's what I'm working on now.

I can also wait for the next revision, and I also like the idea of the LED lighting

I have not driven it yet so can't really say about general glare/reflections. The clear factory piece is concave and slanted upward, presumably to minimize reflections, so I would suspect these gauges will show more reflection. I've looked at the no-glare acrylics and have not found one that is clear enough for my liking, but am looking around. If you google "glare on instrument cluster" you'll see even some new cars struggle with it, so we shall see. Hoping to button up the prototype today or tomorrow, with my new custom lighting set up, and report back after some real world testing.
Also, welcome back.

Tom, I have one 85.5 n/a, a 86 Turbo and a 87 Turbo clusters here, and they all have what you call the "Glare Strip".
I imagine they removed it after this to improve visibility.
The kits I make are based upon the three light tunnels, but I was thinking of 4 light sources for this (one per gauge), since there will be an actual barrier between the gauges, so it can not "wash over". This is why I use two "bulbs" in the center and one on each side, to wash the instruments.
I would think we will need another 3d printed piece to hold the bulbs centered to the gauges at an angle?
I have been tinkering with this but the led's I have here are kind of limited, just ordered some other types to make a prototype.

Thanks for this. I originally thought they added that glare strip but the more I thought about it, the more I started thinking they may have deleted it in order to improve the lighting. Your clusters would see to support that, so thank for that input. I should be able to share my lighting approach in the next few days. I am indeed 3D printing some pieces for it, which will press-fit into the light tunnel slots. That's how I discovered/realized not all the tunnel slots are the same -- some with and some without that 'glare strip".
