I'm happy to help with that and contribute.

A note of caution I just received last night, a friend of mine with an 8V race car tells me that the Ford alternative is not working on his bracket. I only have experience with the 16V motor so I can't speak to that personally, though I trust the feedback.

Cheers

Well, that's a bummer. Sorry if I missed it, but is there a specific model number or source for the alternator? I can test fit it on my old motor (on a stand) pretty easily...

Plot twist! My friend told me that he ordered the wrong casing, so there may yet be hope for the 8V cars.

I'll update things as I hear more; sorry for any confusion.

How does the Ford Alternator compare size wise to the Quest? I have a bit of a clearance issue with my turbo intake piping clashing with the terminal

I am not sure if it's available in the US, but I used an alternator out of a mid 90s Ford Scorpio (p/n CA1071IR, Bosch p/n 0123320014). It required some minor grinding to the alternator's case and a couple of washers for the mounting ears, but no mods to the mount itself. It only puts out 90 amps, but it is cheap (70 €), light and smaller than the stock alternator.

You don't happen to have pictures of it installed do you?

Just a word of caution to those that have installed a Griffith air conditioning update system with the Keul compressor. Because they send you a new belt with this kit and it isn’t an OEM version your OEM belt won’t work. My shop found one that works in the form of a Kia belt. I’ll get the part number soon to update.

Just found out that my single wire alternator was the source of a significant battery drain. Self exciting single wire alternators are known for this, I guess...I recently swapped back to an OEM unit and my problem completely disappeared. Just for info, in case anyone else is looking at going to a single wire alternator.
1984 VW Rabbit Pick-up - Not stock
1988 944 Turbo S - Really not stock (Chris White special)
2012 VW Tiguan - Kinda stock
2013 Cayenne Base - 6 Speed! Tastefully modified, mostly stock

When my Nissan alternator failed it would drain the battery while sitting overnight. I have a lifetime warranty on my Autozone Nissan/Mercury alternator so the failure didn't cost me anything but time for R&R.
