I was thinking the same thing today. The 718 is a much better layout for handling and high performance driving in general. I get that the 911 is the flagship/icon/holy grail of most Porschephiles and that won't change. It has tons more options of interior combos, always gets the latest tech first, etc. And Porsche will never allow any other model in the lineup to best it, so we get the less powerful engines and so forth. When nods are made the Cayman/Boxster platform outperforms the 911 and the factory racing versions of the 911 move the engine forward so in effect too is mid-engine.

I can live with all this knowing that for less money I have a car that's fractionally inferior to the 911 but in real world driving there is very little difference. And 90% of the public can't tell the difference!

Just in…another forum member sudden engine failure like Bill that was noted on Rennlist. Awaiting to see if the failure is due to the oil pump

I just read his post, I'd bet my pension it's the pump. Oil pressure was gone and the engine locked up.

There’s another one from RL whom we overlooked as I just went over the the RL thread again. That makes a total of 3 thus far. All under 10k miles, I believe.

Sounds like this is a different issue than the 190 cars Porsche officially recalled for connecting rod issues. As a potential buyer, it sure would be nice if Porsche was transparent about whatever the issue is, and how they plan to address it in newly produced cars. Taking care of people who have the problem is good for sure, but I can't imagine I'm the only potential buyer who is a bit leery about jumping in under the circumstances. On the other hand, I guess they still have way more buyers than cars these days....

Yeah, I kinda expected a recall or something by now. Maybe they have identified the pp/n for the defective pumps. Keep in mind there was at least one replacement engine condemned by Porsche as well, it was to have been shipped to my dealer for U S stock but they discovered it had the same pump as mine. FWIW, my car seems to be running with a higher oil pressure than with the old engine. That's not a scientific observation, just from initial startup to regular running the pressure appears to be 3-5 psi higher.

Interesting to see the GT4RS has a GT3 motor. I'm sure that decision was made long ago and unrelated to these engine issues, but it takes one concern off the table for that car....
