Interesting. Similar but I'm not sure it's the same concept as mine. If I'm following that video correctly (which is hard because it make me woozy to watch :sick: ) I think that tensioner is being turned until the pointer lines up to a specific location. That would be like if we turned our tensioner until it points to 2 o'clock, for example, rather than turning it to whatever location is needed to get the right tension on the belt. At first, I thought that 27NM spec was the spec for how hard to turn the allen key, which would be the same concept I used, but I think that spec is for the bolt that holds the tensioner in place.

Yes the 27NM is for the bolt.. seems the tensioner has a built in calibrated spring and you simply line up the mark

Surprised this isn't standard: it would drastically reduce install error

The dci is a diesel.. it is so sweet revving and quiet... pulls strong too. What do the French know that Germans don't? The VW diesels let's be honest are like tractors in comparison

Here's an idea that just blew my mind recently - apparently, Ducati timing belts are tensioned by measuring the frequency of the belt when plucked. I mean.. I am simultaneously really surprised to learn this and also can't really fault the theory.. I wonder if we could figure this out for the 944 and then we could set tension using a guitar tuner app on a smart phone.. :think:

I voted for the twist/ water pump slippage since I’ve only changed my belts once and I’m as cheap as they come! 🤣🤣🤣

Not having to change the water pump every other belt change makes me tight too I guess. I wonder how many people have rechecked the tension of the timing belt when the engine is up to working temperature? I've just changed the belts and tensioners for the 3rd time in 15 years/23k miles. Each time the belts still looked to be in great condition.

Porsche dealer only.............2 year warranty on parts and labor. Good insurance for the cost.

PS. I purchased my '86 n/a new with only 25 miles on the odometer. Now at 294,xxx miles, I've logged 22 occurrences for replacing/retention of the timing/balance belts by the Porsche dealership.

Not sure why anyone would check it at operating temperature anyways. Tension measurements are intended to be done on a cold engine (0°C/68°F)

The re-tension after first 1k (or whatever is specified by book, I forget) is the real drag... lol
