Another new member after opening my copy of Pano last night.
I've been on Pelican for years.
I've had my 1981 911SC for 27 years. It's essentially stock, I have removed some unnecessary weight. I do have a long term goal of finding a core motor and building up a 3.2 SS w/ EFI.
I like to do my own work on all my cars.
My daily is a 2013 Mini Cooper JCW.
My son has a 1988 944 that was his first car and daily driver for several years. He keeps it in my garage and I get to do most of the maintenance.
I used to be pretty active with PCA, that waned for a while, I'm getting back in with that group.
Nice little forum you have here!
@Porchdog
Welcome to Carpokes!! We cherish all of our new Carpokeans - Tom has done a fantastic job of getting the forum off the ground, creating a friendly and helpful site that we can all enjoy.
Join in as much as your time allows and post pictures too! (I'm a broken record telling everyone that Carpokes is a very picture-friendly site.) There have been some phenomenal posts from some impressive fabricators and re-builders/restorers.

Michael here from NC, Salisbury/High Rock Lake area. Always been a Porsche lover, especially the 911's growing up. Bought my first one last year, '18 991.2 C4S, kept it for 9 months then sold and bought a '21 992 S 5 months ago. Have loved every minute of it and can't get enough!
Any local members around?
Looking forward to connecting with the good folks on here!

Sorry if I've been slow to welcome all our new members -- please know how happy we are to see all the newcomers from the latest Panorama (or wherever you learned of Carpokes)! When we started Carpokes, I was just convinced I wasn't the only one who wanted a Porsche forum where enthusiasts can connect online in a happy, upbeat environment -- a refreshing oasis from the big commercial forums if you will. Porsche enthusiasts are great in real life, so I'm convinced it can be the same online if we are left to ourselves. As we inch closer to 3,000 members, each friendlier than the next, I'm more convinced than ever about the premise.
Welcome aboard
@tmoneyrunner ,
@Porchdog,
@MH992NC, and
@pwitteman. We are thrilled to have you here!

Welcome Pam!
My previous home was at the base of Angeles Crest Highway above Los Angeles. Working from home, that handy road served as a very regular "tire testing ground" when I needed a distraction from the grind. It was that or brush clearing for fire protection... I gave up on trying to find a "compromise" tire that offered performance and long life in the same package. I will say that being sensitive to the tires will do a lot to smooth out your driving style. But don't cripple the car and sacrifice the performance you obviously cherish by installing bargain tires on it. If tire life is your primary focus, put truck tires on a Fiat and a raw egg in each shoe...
Post your question in the Cayman/Boxster forums and get thoughts from others who share your exact passions and concerns.

Hi All!
My name is Pamelyn Witteman, Ph.D. and I live in the Smoky Mountains, NC, near the Tail of the Dragon. I am a first-time Porsche owner of a 2021 718 Cayman. I love my Cayman and LOVE to drive it around the corners here in NC.
I am a Professor and work at home, so I enjoy the curvy roads here whenever I can. I have to get new tires soon, so I wonder if any of you have any advice on tires that are good for curves and will not wear too much. The factory P Zeros are not that great for what I drive on - curves and lots of them
I look forward to chatting with all of you!
Cheers!
Pam

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the welcome, Chris Bahlman and my partner Alex here from Dearborn, MI. We have a 79 924, the very same car featured in Panorama six (?) year ago. We rescued it from a local broker, with my decades of experience in the industry and as a former tech / mechanic, slowly bringing it back. I sold a 13 981 BS during high covid (that was a mistake), now in line at a couple of dealerships for a 982 BT. We're active on & off in the Rally Sport Region. I own several vintage Mercedes-Benz and a couple of vintage Cadillacs.
Great forum, great info.
Thanks

Welcome aboard Chris! We have a lot of 944 folks here, but only a handful of 924 folks, so it's great to have more of you! That was the 'affordable' Porsche when I was in high school, so was the car of my dreams back then (not that it was remotely 'affordable' to me while working at McDonalds....). Would love to see more of it!
p.s., I've been doing a rolling resto of my dad's old '79 450SL, and post about that occasionally too.

I'll add my welcome Chris (and Alex). I won't have anything much to offer in the tech discussions but always enjoy seeing what others are doing. There are some incredibly talented people here - magicians! - so I think you'll fit in well.
Dearborn - sigh...many days and many years ago traversing up and down the great Telegraph Rd, also going east and west on all the main cross roads including Michigan, Warren, Joy, Plymouth and others along your particular stretch of Telegraph. Long time ago!

Hey Tim! Welcome to Carpokes!
Great 911 (so much fun) and a great setting, somewhere out west - could it be Arizona? But the best is the name - I'm partial to "Tim" as might be expected.
Enjoy Carpokes - lots of good discussions with something for everyone!
