A stock 3L engine has a rod ratio of 1.70 so if you choose to destroke your 3.2 to 2.7 by keeping the same pistons you would have to use longer rods to compensate and that would bring the rod ratio to 1.96, which seems a tad high for a 951 engine. Not saying that it would not be interesting to rev it near 10,000 rpm, but...

So this is what $5700 gets you these days. Ordered via Sean Buchanan and delivered from the factory in less than 2 weeks. Interestingly it's an S2 and not a 968 crank which haven't been available from the factory for some years. Wonder why that is? Apparently the 968 crank is a little lighter. Oh well...I'll just have to send this off to Lindsay Racing to knife edge...
Next step will be measuring up and ordering new rods. Ordinarily one could just use standard length 3lt rods but I suspect the pin height is different with the custom CP pistons so we'll have to go custom again. Does anyone have any strong opinions on brand of rods. The previous ones were Carrillo but I have heard good things about Molnar at half the cost. Wossner perhaps? Thoughts?

Great to see you're back in the fray Patrick! Hopefully going for a more 'standard' build will leave less room for problems.
I've been running the Molnar rods in my car for about 9 years now. Granted, nowhere near your power levels but the quality seems decent, especially for the price.

I was doing some casual Google research and Molnar came up, followed by a thread on Rennlist in the 944turbo forums. It might have been you in there who was tossing up options? Good to hear there is no complaints.

Yep I used to be quite active on RL under the same username. I think there was an Aus company I had also been considering for rods but I couldn't find any feedback on them at the time.
Hopefully the pin height on your pistons allows use of some off the shelf rods. I suppose if the pin height is a tiny bit too low, you could get a little machined off the top of your pistons? Providing they have enough meat

That would have been PPM Australia. I get various opinions of them. Mostly good but the occasional poor review.

Great news!
What are the plans size-wise? Move down to a stock size 3L or carry on with an expensive and arguably too large stroker?

Not touching this crank. Will go back to 3ltr. Not quite the 2.7 x 10,000, but we'll manage the tq all the same.

Great.
I always used Carrillo rods, you can't go wrong with them.
