J-Dub wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2024 7:57 am @JodehFoster I have been looking at those gas gaps for quite some time now. How does it feel in the hand? Is it real aluminum or some of the plastic aluminum like the entry and drive fob?
As Larry mentioned, they are plastic but they still look great! I too prefer real metal but Porsche is obsessed with weight reduction (along with costs...lol), so they figure anything that doesn't need to be some kind of metal won't be.

When Porsche makes the hood crest on GT4 RS cars a decal rather than a real badge and says it's for "weight savings", one either must take Porsche's word at face value or figure they're being cheap. (Or, to be kind to Porsche, "trimming costs". :D )

I’d been tossing around the idea of getting one, but the all silver plastic really looks cheap to me. This “exclusive sport” cap in silver and black presents much better. I grabbed it during a Spring sale…still spendy, but expected I guess.

Too bad the machined aluminum “cover” isn’t a complete cap.

Today, I managed to swap in the GTS tails I’ve been undecidedly sitting on…

So, when you guys change parts, do you hold on to OEM, or straight to marketplace with that stuff? Between my few cars, I feel like I can start a mini parts warehouse. I can’t see parting with any of it (unless the car goes), but I low-key feel like a hoarder.

Hey, LOVE the ducktail. I have been considering the same one (gloss carbon). Is your care Agate Grey or A. Green? Anymore pics of it?

Back to your question. I keep all my parts. I kind of have a shrine of all my parts from my 718. (Engine cover, numerous interior parts, shifter, trim, etc). Plus, if any of my upgraded/aftermarket parts break, I have a quick replacement ready.

Also, if I ever decide to do a large project with Exclusive Option, I can send them the parts for credit on the project (cores).

Looks great Karri!

Regarding swapped out parts, most of my changes have been performance side items but, like 71eh, I tend to keep them.

Thanks! Yes, Agate Grey. The ducktail is a (third-hand) gently used TWL Carbon. I will say, this is the simplest mounting I’ve seen on these and it completely replaces the OEM. I also have the front TechArt spoiler.
My wheels are Apex, Fabspeed exhaust. I added the matte stone guards and matte with gloss windshield banner as a nod to the old turbos & to give it a little character. Oh yeah, I had my seatbelts rewebbed too.

keeping parts as spares is smart…time to decorate the garage with them.

Like most, I'm hanging on to all my parts too.

Very cool and tasteful mods you have done. Here is my Agate grey 718. Nothing done to the exterior yet, bunch of things done to the interior.

And, yea it's kind of fun to make a little display area for your parts. I have a bunch of mine spread out on a wall in my garage.

@71eh Very nice! Love the black wheels…GT4?

I also have the red Carpokes hyper-speed dial cover. Other than leather floor mats & plaid seatbelts, my interior is pretty basic. Your lighting is 😎

On the few small mods I did on my 2 years departed 987 Cayman S I held on to the parts. I kept the OEM pedals in a box in my garage and stuck the original silver “Cayman S” badge to my toolbox. I just threw away the old spark plugs I changed 5 years ago during a garage purge last week. I did feel like a small time hoarder when I realized I still had the plugs.
And yes the toolbox is a lot quicker now with the Cayman S badge on it.
