There is a story here.
The Gemini Giant was one of the many giants along old Route 66, part of the many roadside attractions that were there to get the attention of the travellers. Until this month he stood outside the remains of the old Launching Pad restaurant in Illinois. The eccentric owner became some kind of zealot and threatened to destroy him, but better sense prevailed and he went to auction. Got $265,000 last week and will be reinstalled a bit further down route 66. However where this pic was taken in now empty space. I have travelled every inch of the Route over many years and a number of such sights have disappeared.

One of the loneliest buildings on Route 66. It sits on an abandoned part of old 66 closed when the interstate came by, in the Painted Desert in Arizona. It is now on private land and there are no directions, a few miles into the area. Needs permission to enter. The owner, Dutch Henry never had water here so everything had to be brought in. Abandoned many decades ago.
