The shop is going to run two this week to test the file/size. I'll look around for a local car to test on, but in the meantime if someone could post pictures showing the texture of the surrounding area, that would be helpful. I doubt we'll match it, but will shoot for something that doesn't look out of place in that setting. Anyone here with a Spyder in the Silicon Valley area?

Thanks Tom! You may have an area on your car with that textured area somewhere:

Have a little progress to report. I have a prototype aluminum cover in hand. It's 1/8" aluminum (raw) that we had cut to test the size. Comparing it to the ones I printed, it is identical in size, although I bit thicker than the thinnest ones I printed. I'll look around for a local Spyder to check the size, but I sent quite of few of the plastic ones in the same size and everyone seemed to be ok with them (until the warped). If I can't find a local car, I can send this one to Bob or other volunteer. :) I doubt we can 'match' the surrounding texture, but there are some options for adding texture before anodizing -- just not sure if that's best after seeing the pictures above.... ?

Looks good! But I think I may have told you 1/16" thick - if it is too thick it will stick up above the surrounding area, especially with velcro on the back. In the morning I will try and measure mine again to be sure.

Once the shape is settled, we can cut it in any thickness needed. But see post #89 and #90 above, where we said 1/8th inch thick -- not right after all? That plastic one in the picture is super thin -- thinner than what I sent you I'm pretty sure. No harm done if we need to change it. 1/16" is pretty darn thin -- maybe 3/32"? Maybe measure what you have and let me know what you think after that?

I measured mine and they are in fact 1/16" thick, which I believe is the perfect thickness so it is level with the surrounding area, when velcro is used to attach them. I have tested them to 125mph and they did not move, but if someone wants to use flat magnets they will have the room to do so, which IMO would not be the case if they were 1/8" thick.

Hi Folks,

This may have been mentioned already. If so, my apologies and please ignore this suggestion. Would this be a good paint option to help the aluminum piece better match the stock plastic? I know the SEM interior paint is a good match for older Porsche interiors.

I think that everyone can paint them if they so desire, or cover them in satin vinyl like I did, which you can get at most craft stores.
