As a 3D printing geek, it’s awesome that their are 3D printed tools for working on these cars.

Hi all!

UK based owner of a 1987 2.5 NA 944 for about 4 years now. Bought it as a non runner with no service history and now have it in a road legal and driveable state!

Whilst I'm here, any advice for restoring faded paint? I am aware you should use polish but not sure which?

Welcome aboard! We have a growing number of folks from the UK (and other parts of Europe) so you'll be in good company. As for the paint, it might be worth its own thread, but one key issue is whether your paint has a clear coat or is a single stage (all color) paint. If it's a clear coat with flaking or chalky clear, your options are pretty limited short of painting, but if it is a single stage paint, you can make it shine like new until you buff down to the primer. Take a look at the Rupes Bigfoot polishers -- they allow DIY folks with little experience to get results like a pro with minimal risk of burning through the paint (which is the big risk with traditional polishers). Lots of great polishing compounds available, but if just starting out and you opt to get a Rupes polisher, you can also get their polishing compound/pad kit to eliminate and trial/error/guess work.... (You can try the same on clear coat, and probably improve things, but once clear starts to flake, the only real fix it paint.)

Welcome to Carpokes!

It's super to hear about progress from non-running condition to driveable for any and all Porsches - nice job on your 944!

Hi all
I just joined the other day and have had a chance to read some of the earlier 944 posts. It's very encouraging to find this level of knowledge and general desire to constructively repair, maintain, and enhance the 944!
I've been looking for hvac controller schematics and circuit board pictures for a while, and lo and behold, found them here, along with some helpful discussion.
My name is Ian and I'm an electronics engineering technician, bicycle mechanic, and musician with many years experience and have a beautiful 88 944S. I also have a 944S blog that I write on a not too regular basis, if anyone's interested in checking out and perhaps reading some of my wordy output (by today's standards). https://icb-machinations.blogspot.com/
And here is Gretchen, the 944S:

New member from the Cornfields of Nebraska and the road courses of America. TrackRat and Conehead for years, and frankly enjoy all types of racing and automotive camaraderie. I like the friendly tone of this Forum as the car passion is a universal inanimate sickness and I want to chat about pleasant remedies for enjoying our illness -- we are all smart enough to know there is no cure. So to all the Gearheads, Petrolheads ( as our new friend Lievers944 would call himself ) , Machineheads, Motörheads, etc. on this site, I look forward to hanging around here with you guys/gals , getting some good info, telling lies about how fast we are , and just plain discussing Porsches. My wife and I have a white 2020 Macan S
and it will soon be joined by a 2024 Chalk colored Cayman GTS later this month or next ( she is on the boat docked in Baltimore as we speak ).
