Is the rear axle steering option worth having for the average driver…..i am looking at a nice GTS with the feature but wondered if it could be a big potential repair headache later…..

My Turbo S has it, and to me It seems great for average drivers. The car handles so much better than I could ever drive it, and the rear axle steer ads a sense that the car will save you from just about any bonehead thing I might do while driving. I joke that I could make a u-turn on the highway if I wanted.

I heard so many horror stories about the rear steering as far as repairs goes. Like going bad and the rear steering is poingting one way and the fronts pointing another way while driving.

I have it and while I haven't done a side-by-side comparison behind the wheel, I feel that the steering on my car is wonderful at both low and high speeds. There's no doubt that it makes tight turns and parking easier but I can honestly say that it wasn't a deal breaker for me. It just so happens that RAS was included with the Sport Package option with my car, so I just looked at the feature as a bonus. Sure, anything can break but unlike the poster above, I have not heard of or read of any persistent issues with this feature in our vehicles. Granted, they've only been around since 2017 model 911s, so only time will tell.

No issues here with mine either. Definitely helps with parking and similar low speed situations.

I'll have to pay more attention when parking. Makes sense, but I never noticed that. Probably because I'm always parking a quarter mile from the closest car.raykhublal wrote: Tue Oct 04, 2022 6:50 am No issues here with mine either. Definitely helps with parking and similar low speed situations.

I like to look in the side mirrors and see the rear wheels turning at low speed-pretty cool sight.

Well I watched today and was pretty surprised to see how much they turn. I found an empty parking lot and snaked back and forth and the tires actually turned more than I expected. I tried to get a video but got the angle wrong -- will try again on that soon.raykhublal wrote: Tue Oct 04, 2022 6:38 pm I like to look in the side mirrors and see the rear wheels turning at low speed-pretty cool sight.
