Oil change on Cayenne

I changed the oil in my Cayenne today, probably the messiness job I've ever done. There is NO WAY to do this job without oil getting everywhere, but I really made a mess this time. The problem is the filter will dribble oil over the frame and steering rack despite the best efforts to prevent it. The filter and cannister won't come out as a unit, they must be separated before they will come out due to location and everything in the way, this makes for a messy operation.
Well this time I misjudged the trajectory of the oil coming out from the drain hole and it spattered all over me and everything in the vicinity. Then I failed to notice the last couple of quarts were hitting the floor and missing the funnel. Big mess.

I did this change in a friend's pit instead of using my lift and while it's usually convenient it made for a messy job this time. I once asked a Porsche tech how they did it to prevent oil going everywhere and was told it's impossible to do it with no mess.

I used a flexible funnel the last time and it reduced the oil filter spill by probably 90%.

I've got one but its so hard to get it in position, and like you say, it only reduced the spill, no way to totally eliminate it. The steering rack is going to get covered in oil no matter what you do it seems. This time was especially messy since I missed the funnel with the initial drain and then didn't move it back quickly enough to catch the less forceful deluge from the last 2-3 quarts. My buddy's pit has a big square tank with funnel that rolls around but it was 3/4 full of used oil and quite heavy(I estimate it holds 75 gallons or more) so it wasn't just a matter of nudging the funnel over, I had to use some effort to get the thing rolled into correct position. I've also never had much luck opening the small drain plug in the filter cannister prior to removing it, the hex is an odd size and I've managed to strip two plugs so I just crack the cannister open now and let a small stream drain until I can unscrew it further to release more oil in a somewhat controlled drain, but it still hits suspension/steering bits on the way down.

Update to my old thread: I didn't another oil change today y, still messy, but in removing the filter I was able to reach the filter from way back beyond the steering rack and frame member, and remove the filter with the housing still attached, making for a bit less mess. I still used an entire can of brake cleaner to clean up the oil dripping on the rack.

I was thinking it would be nice to replace the filter housing drain plug with a quick valve + hose. My 944 has that for the radiator drain which has saved multiple messes.
Anyone see something like that? I tried googling but nothing really useful came up.

I've done changes on all my Cayennes ('04 S, '10 S, '11 Turbo) and while it was fiddly getting to the filter, I really never made a huge mess.

Any way to add a remote oil filter housing ? Seems like a relatively inexpensive way to resolve the problem . I don't own a Cayenne but I have read about the VR6 engine being the worst for oil filter changes because it was designed to fit a variety of chassis.
