The car has been doing this since buying it 16 years ago and instead of keeping sitting on this negligible issue I thought I would tackle it for good - am I the only one who can hear a subtle wind noise coming from the driver's door, that disappears when only very lightly sliding down the window?
Could it be the outer window rubber seal as it "seems" to lie against the window and provide a little better seal then?

I can't say I've ever noticed that on my car, but I'm typically zoned in on interior rattles and engine noise. Does it happen at any particular speed? I'd be inclined to put painters tape over suspect areas/seals to see if you can isolate exactly where it's coming from. (Then deal with whatever it is....)

On our other project, I injured me knee recently (MRI pending) and it's keeping me from getting out there and finishing it. Still high on my list, but I have to get off these crutches first...

You are not the only one. My 944 has done exactly that since I bought it in 1999 when the car was only 12 years old. It hasn't gotten any worse at least.

I suspect the issue may be caused by the outer seal. As the window is slightly moved down, it seems to pull the outer seal down and then perhaps closes a negligible gap that may be causing the noise.

Could the white plastic film inside the door actually cause any noise if it is not anymore completely stuck onto the door frame?

Awaiting any MRI on the knee. Fingers crossed. I can't imagine the vapor barrier having the room or airflow to make enough noise to hear at speed. Does it sound like a piece of plastic flapping in the wind??

It really is only a relatively low and continuous wind noise coming from the driver's door, that I ended up noticing only after driving some other cars that drove quieter. It has never really bothered me that much but at this stage I would just like to get to the bottom of it. Getting old I suppose.

FWIW I replaced all the rubber and guides on both doors years ago. Not an easy job getting all those seals and guides deep inside the door in their proper places. But the huge improvement in wind noise was replacing the OE flag mirrors with 968 models.

That lower seal does sit differently against the window depending on the window’s position, at least on my car. The window shifts outward very slightly as it reaches the top of its travel, and no adjustment of the guides and regulator makes that shift disappear. You could try rolling/bending the lower seal in a little (it’s metal inside), and maybe it’ll move just enough to fix the problem. It’s also worth checking the front corner by the mirror since the lower and upper seals meet there at a pretty tight angle
