718 Coding using Launch X431 tool

I saw that there is already a coding thread using the PIWIS clone tools, so I wasn't sure if I should start another coding thread. Instead of a PIWIS, I bought a Launch X431 because they also have capabilities with other makes, such as my Audi. (Mine is a Pro v.4, but they have other less expensive models that work as well.) I've used it to do a fair amount of coding on the car, and thought I could share the details here if there is any interest. Much of what I've done is similar to coding with PIWIS, but the screens and terminology is a bit different.

Examples of what I've done are linked to the descriptions:
Comments and questions are welcome.

  • Auto-Start/Stop button remembers last state
  • Gauge illumination always on (2 different ways)
  • Disabled seatbelt warnings
  • Remapped coolant temp gauge accuracy
  • Comfort blinkers to 4
  • Windows up/down with key fob
  • Change side markers to indicators only
  • Activated teardrop wiper
  • Don't unlock all doors when opening trunk/rear lid via fob or proximity sensors
  • Change spoiler deploy speed
If there's any interest in this stuff, let me know and I'll start posting it.
Impressive Arne!

And yes, I think there would be quite a bit of interest in more of this so I'm glad you started the thread. My suggestion would be to add to it in bits and pieces as things come to mind or as you perform other coding projects.

I imagine this info would also be a benefit for more than just 718's, so, while it could be located in a different sub, I think it's fine here where it began with your 718. Most will find it no matter where it resides. In addition, the search feature of the phpBB software that Tom chose for Carpokes works very well which broadens the reach. :)

Thanks for posting this. Pardon my naivety, but what is the “teardrop wiper?”

OK, here goes.

The first one is a big one. I changed the config so that the car remembers the state of the Auto-Start/Stop button on start up. I have A-S/S turned off now, and the car remembers and starts up with it already off. I don't have to remember to hit the button every time I get in the car. This config apparently only remembers the A-S/S and PASM button states. PSE, PSM, etc. are not remembered.

Remember Auto Stop/Start (ASS)

Two changes.
  • SYSTEM SELECTION> AIR CONDITIONING> Coding value--Default driving state coding value = Last Mode
    {Default: Eco ON}

With the auto start stop programmed to remember the last setting, does the car still always start in original driving mode or does it remember the last driving mode? E.g., I usually drive in individual mode but the driving mode always defaults to original mode upon car start up. I then turn the driving mode knob to individual that also turns auto start stop to OFF.

I didn't know either but I found this that Arne posted on the 718 Forum where he discussed the X431 tool and coding:

"4. Activated Wiper Tear Drop function.
This function activates an additional pass of the wiper a few seconds after washer is activated and normal wiper mode is finished."

This function activates an additional pass of the wiper 8-10 seconds after the washer is used and normal wiper mode is finished. The idea is that the additional swipe will clear the remaining drips of washer fluid.

Teardrop Wiper

  • System Selection>Front-end Electronics> WWS Coding> WWS coding--Teardrop function active = YES
    {Default: No}

This appears to function similarly in some ways (or achieve a similar end result, anyway) to Windows Registry edits and changes.

No, it only remembers the actual A-S/S and PASM switches in the console. Rather limited for GTS or other Sport-Chrono equipped cars. None of the other consoles switches or the drive modes are saved.

Similar process, and similarly cryptic descriptions. And sometimes the path makes no sense. It took me a long time to find the A-S/S bit. Who would have thought that would be configured in the A/C controller?
