Shoe Q

I have been wanting a decent pair of driving shoes. I have ones for the track, but want some I can use otherwise. My sneakers/sandals sometimes seem a bit too wide and inflexible. And suggestions? Brands to look at or stay away from?

Grazie

Great question am I am watching this with interest.

I was looking at the Puma Speedcat online, they come in a bunch of different colors and partner brands. I have not yet tried them on.

I've looked at driving shoes (for street use) off and on for decades. None that I've ever looked at offer wider (EE) sizes, nor do they have a squared toe box. If anyone knows of one that does, let me know.

Ferragamo? I’ll admit, the EE is not all that wide but they are Italian…

Hagerty's magazine has Piloti advertised. https://piloti.com/

I have two pairs of Piloti Slipstreams. I have them in Charcoal and Cognac.

They're very well made, super comfortable, and look fantastic. I've worn them for HPDE weekends and honestly have no clue if they're an improvement over my regular sneakers. They're definitely tighter and the sole seems to give me a better feel for the pedals. However, that could just be due to the heightened awareness that comes with deep focus on track. I wish I could say that they feel like a second skin (my instructor said that's how a driving shoe should feel) but I can't.

Doing it all over again, I would probably get something other than the Cognac pair - maybe the denim Drifts instead. The leather is incredibly bright and stands out with anything I'm wearing. If you want someone to look at your shoes, those will do it!

These look a lot like the loafers Senna would wear for test drives.

Or to the dealership for repairs?

I have two pairs of Puma Speedcats which have been ideal driving shoes for me. Fit is fairly narrow, but not uncomfortable, and IMHO the perfect width for our 718 pedal spacing. The Graphite Blue Leather pair is used almost exclusively for track days and the Sapphire Blueish Suede pair for AX and random drives. Bought both pairs on sale ($60ish) when we still owned our '17 Sapphire Blue BS and approximately one year before even entertaining the idea of ordering the '22 BGTS. Fortuitously, our BGTS has a Graphite Blue Leather interior...what are the odds!?!

The following link will take you to a pair of these shoes in a Shark Bluish tone, somewhat similar to my Sapphire Bluish suede shoes, but a different hue:
