Hey everyone, just curious if anyone is running the Augtronic standalone ECU? I have one ready to go, just curious if anyone has any other feedback on it.

Hi,
I don't have any direct feedback or experience with that ECU, but it was on my radar ~10 years ago while I was deciding a direction for my 951 (I ended up going VEMS, more on that in a bit). But, one of the most important things to consider when going to a standalone ECU is support, both from the maker of the ECU and the eventual dyno tuner's ability/willingness to work with it. The fact that Augment's last post on their site about this ECU was 10 years ago is concerning, but they also have some blog posts from 2024 so it seems they are still around! It would be a good idea to reach out to them and ask if support/repair for the ECU is still available.
That said, it looks like a good product, and the fact that the factory knock detection is retained is a big plus. I took a risk and ditched this capability by going with the VEMS system (it has full knock detection capabilities, but this needs to be set up from scratch), but I wanted the breadth of its true standalone capabilities, and wanted the experience of tuning something from scratch, and it has been a rewarding process.
I highly recommend paying for at least some of the basic HP Academy tuning courses, they are great, and have been instrumental in my knowledge of the standalone tuning process.

I’ve been running Augtronic on my ’86 NA for almost five years now, and I’ve been mostly happy with it. It’s my first ever aftermarket ECU, so going full standalone would’ve been a little too daunting, Augtronic is a nice middle ground with goodies and a nice performance upgrade.
The support is nothing short of stellar, Tom is a nice fellow to deal with thru email. My only gripe is that E85 isn’t really supported since it’s not really available in the UK (where Augtronic is based), but thru trial and error I have gotten that working nice as well.

I looked at Augtronic years ago too, but they wanted almost a day to set it up their own dyno. And checking the price on their website now, it's more expensive than a plug and play VEMS kit.

I'd look at Link or Haltech, the things you can do with the latest generation of ECUs is amazing.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I’ve dealt with several different standalone ECU’s in the past so not new to these. The plug n play capability and ability to do a closed loop wideband O2 is very intriguing while keeping the factory knock system.
