Hi everyone. Enjoying the platform and posts. I plan to swap the standard steering wheel in my Cayman S 987.2 . A bit of research shows a few approaches. Does anyone have experience or suggestions?
I keep hitting the thumb shift buttons during track days..

I cannot answer your question but I can welcome you to Carpokes!
Hopefully, someone will have done something similar to what you are inquiring about and can share their experiences and ideas.

Depends on your budget and what functionality you want to add/keep. It's also a lot harder to find a replacement wheel if you have a non-black interior and want a color-matched steering wheel.
Cheapest and most popular option is to swap to a 987 sport design steering wheel with the paddle shifters. I see a lot of these for sale locally for <$500 with black leather. The nice thing about using 987 steering wheels is you don't need to pay extra for the airbag, you can simply swap your current airbag over.
I ended up installing a 982 GT sport wheel w/ multi-function buttons and heating. It's a lot more expensive than the former option since you need to get the 982 airbag and an adapter to get the multi-function and heating working. It was close to $2200 for the wheel + airbag + adapter, and then another $1300 to get the heating working since the car did not have the heated steering wheel option from factory. Photo:

Also Techart sells a paddle shift conversion kit for the buttons but it's more expensive than finding a used 987 sport design steering wheel. However, you do get to keep your multi-function buttons assuming you have those on your current wheel. It's also probably your only option if your interior is non-black and you want a color matched wheel but don't want to spend the time finding one.
