Carpokes

I finally got around to ordering a much needed product: a pair of Jackpoint Jackstands. They arrived today and are fantastic - extraordinarily strong and very high quality devices. Impressive.

Without a lift or something like QuickJack, these are necessary for safely doing simple jobs such as brakes, wheel rotation, etc. on later model Porsches (and other makes) that only have one accessible jack point per corner. (Can't use a typical style jack stand if the floor jack has the car lifted at the exact point where the stand needs to go. )

They'd also certainly come in handy for track days if trailering your car and needing to do tire/brake/other service work.

That's great to hear! I have four of the stands now - two with low profile pads and the other two with recessed pads. I have a detailed and photo supported post in my mind with new findings that I've been meaning to do for Carpokes. I've procrastinated. Anyway, what I discovered is pretty cool for something so mundane as getting a car off the ground and on stands, especially for those of us without a lift or those needing their car off the ground while at the track. I'll get to the update at some point - I promise!

Yeah, John is a great guy and through hanging out with him I got to hear about his business.
We're working on getting some pictures posted on the new site along with a blog of customer experiences.

I have a Quickjack at home which is great but it's just too cumbersome to use for a quick job you want to do on the car.
I've started using the Jackpoint Jackstands with my race car at the track.
That's lifted a lot between sessions so it's nice to be able to do it quickly and safely.

This is great news! Crazy Eddie has a set for his fleet of Caymans and they are an ingenious design. So much easier, safer, and less prone to damaging the undercarriage than trying to jack these modern Porsches the old fashion way! All Carpokians should have a set or three.

A few updates regarding my use of the JackPoints that have proved helpful to me. The JackPoints are pretty much a must-have for those of us without a lift and/or for use at tracks if one does any basic service such as wheel rotation, changing brake pads, bleeding or other minor maint.

I bought a 2nd set of JackPoints last Fall, this pair with the recessed pads which are a bit lower in height than the low profile pads. Using four stands means I only need one floor jack to get the car up fully on all four corners. And I only have to jack once per side to get the JackPoints under those four corners. Prior to the second set of JackPoints, I would use two floor jacks for side-to-side wheel rotation. And then it was too easy to be lazy and rely on only the floor jacks to hold the car up while rotating wheels/tires - not very wise no matter how careful with legs and arms.

So, why the recessed set of pads instead of standard low profile? When one jacks up one side and places the two JackPoints on that side, the opposite side of the car is angled and compressed downward, lessening the available room to slide the floor jack/JackPoint pad combo under the car. The recessed pads give me just enough room, saving an extra step of having to place a 2x4 or similar under the tires on that side beforehand.

Anyway, as Tom and others have pointed out, the JackPoints are an ingenious and extremely safe way of getting modern Porsches with their enclosed undersides on stands easily and quickly, especially considering that there are only four spots to position any kind of jack stands or lift pads on these newer cars.
