718 Sports Chrono Bezel Progress

With thanks to @Bob Z for fearlessly loaning me his sports chrono bezel, I'm finally starting to make progress on a bezel for the 718. My first goal is to create a replica of the factory bezel, since Porsche does not sell them separately. I'll end up with a straight replica, along with one that has a glare hood. I'm not sure how painting the original/replica would look because it's only about half of the inner black edge, so once I have the replica done, I still plan to work on a cover that clips over the factory part and can be painted in bright colors -- like the 992 version. Here's the very first draft to come off the printer. Already looking mighty close, though I still have some fine-tuning to do, and add the clips that hold it in place, etc. One is factory, the other is printed. Hard to say which is which really....

The original is black. Must be from a GT4? Great work!

It is from my 2021 Spyder - it was Silver to begin with but I painted it along with my vent surrounds and centers, radio trim rings, etc.

I am sure a lot of 718 owners will like these, especially since they can be painted in any color!

I showed some photos to the folks at my Porsche dealership. Most thought that the bezel covers were OEM bezel options. As far as I know the only OEM bezel colors are black or chrome and you can’t decide which color you want. They are car specific.

What’s particularly cool about the covers is that you can paint them to match the exterior paint, interior leather, Race-Tex or the deviated stitching / seat belts / seat deviated leather!

I have black leather with deviated stitching and seat belts in Chalk. What do you all think, bezel cover in Chalk or black?

Most of the bezels I have seen are Silver, which matches a lot of the other interior trim pieces. In your case though, a Black bezel would look nice but I think Tom has a pic of a Chaulk bezel for a 992 you can see.

If we get the cover working like the 992 version -- where it can just pop on and off easily -- you won't need to choose. Keep a variety of colors on hand to suit your mood that day. You've earned all the colors you might want. :) I normally keep the red one on my car, but have other colors for special occasions.

I went to the paint shop today and got spray paint in Racing Yellow, Gentian Blue and Bordeaux. The Bordeaux was a dead ringer on the sample card they had, but looks a tad redder when sprayed in high gloss. Will post some shots of the new colors when they are dry enough to handle tomorrow.
