944 Koni cut-a-strut inserts with older style struts?

Hi people,

I made dumb mistake. I wanted to replace the front struts inserts of my -87 NA 944. Went through the catalogue and read that from -87 onwards the struts are not rebuildable by design, but there are Konis that can be fitted by modifying the strut. So I bought a pair, went to a garage to replace them, and realized that my car indeed has rebuildable struts (it turns out it is a very early -87 or possibly built late -86). The shop will not refund the Konis, so I'm stuck with them.

Is it possible to modify the strut to fit the Konis? I'm thinking that if the dimensions are the same in both styles of struts, I could just do the same modifications that are needed with the newer style strut. Has anyone tried this?

Mcwine,
I have an 86 NA. A couple of years ago I did a front end rebuild and I used the Koni Cut-a-Strut units.
My stock struts were the oil and damper type( Rebuildable) not inserts. Had the screw cap on top.
I tried some inserts first but didn't care for them so I went to the Cut-a-Strut. I don't know if your stock struts were that type but the Koni's worked fine for me. There is some figuring and cutting involved but all in all I like them. still on car today.

Why not get some worn out struts from an '87, and do the mod on them?

Yeah, I'm considering this option, too, but they are not easy to find around where I live.

Ok, thanks for the input. I guess the instructions from Paragon product apply (https://www.paragon-products.com/kb_results.asp?ID=50)
