Guten Morgen leute!

Kid in a candy store... grinning ear to ear over here having found this group! :D

My name is Jonathan & I was introduced to the joys of Porsche Ownership back in 2012 ('89 951) and ever since then have been gradually bringing her back to life.

Have only put less than 2k miles on her since the day of purchase, most of which accrued during the drive home from South Carolina back to the Greater Cincinnati area. The list of things I have done to get her where she is today is something i'll have to take some time developing; though in short a full interior, exterior, engine, powertrain, gasket replacement overhaul restoration, LED conversions and a little mix of old meets new tech. Thankfully the list is getting shorter and shorter until I am ready to daily drive her, though still have some bugs to work out. Once I stumbled upon this forum, my jaw dropped at how in-depth and detailed this community has gone to help one another. From 3D printed parts, to pics, and diagrams... you all are incredible!

I went to Kettering University up in Flint, MI for Mechanical Engineering and spent nearly a decade in the auto industry. Super excited to share my knowledge and skills for any designs, troubleshooting, printing, testing, and just general collaboration with you stellar humans. *I have SolidWorks and a Prusa i3 MK3 if anyone has a part/tool they need modeled and/or printed*

A few years back I came across an '86 944 NA at a pull-n-pay and spent 3 days taking it down to the frame and salvaging as much as possible...tried buying the whole thing "as is", though since they didn't have the title, they wouldn't sell it to me  30 hrs and 9 wheelbarrows later... I have a mini parts store in my basement  . This seems like a good place to put up the parts that don't fit my model so let me know if there is something specific you need as I slowly get things posted.

My major projects remaining:
- Cracked Windshield
- Damaged Clear Coat (sad story from a leaky "weather-proof cover")

- Rear hatch pin alignment
- Sound System fully functional
- Repair driver side door panel
- Cracked dash and steering wheel leather
- HUD Electrical Gremlins (Speedometer & Tachometer jump occasionally, Engine temp spikes to max randomly)
- Fuel Gauge reads full after filled up then goes to half once it has sat for a week or so... never lower though
- LED Turn Signals Blinking rapidly
- CAM housing oil leak after new seals installed...
- A/C has NEVER worked (I have thought about converting to 134a)
- Hood needs proper alignment (reinstalled it after the engine gasket rebuild)
- Headlights to LED
- Exhaust Leak??
- Proper tune

If you have made it this far... Thank You! I pray that you experience more miracles and blessings than you can imagine!

Much Love <3

Jonathan,
Welcome to CARPOKES! I'm guessing that if you were in Flint the auto industry had a lot to do with GM. I have an 89 951 as well and you will not find a friendlier Porsche focused site anywhere. You've clearly done quite a bit of work on your car and I'd suggest looking through the transaxle grouping posts to see some amazing posts and hidden gems regarding the 924/944/968 models and extremely knowledgeable members if you haven't already done so.....lots of great, detailed how to's all through the various posts.

Rob,
Thank you for the warm welcome!
I spent most of my time as an engineer for the T1 suppliers for all the OEM's. Would love to have a meetup once I trust her to do road-trips again. They are truly incredible cars. I truly admire the focus on friendliness and kindness with this group! HAHA I was up until 5am scrolling through this entire forum in absolute AWE of what's here.

Also, thank you @P_Coastal & @blueline for the warm welcome!

I think you and Rob (Rob III) have much in common regarding OEMs!

Oh, and 951 car color too! :D

@ROB III Do you also have the black on burgundy 951? I haven't met anyone else with this color combo yet. When it comes time to repaint the car I am split between going gloss black again or doing a Black Cherry Pearlessence similar to this with a stronger black presence.

Hi Jonathan, a slightly late but very warm welcome to you! Thanks for sharing your background, experience, and cars! We love all Porsches here on Carpokes, but my first love was the 944 Turbo, which I still have, and we have a pretty deep bench of 944 knowledge within our ranks. And, we have a much higher signal to noise ratio than a lot of places. :shifty: Not boasting, but rather want you to know you've come to the right place! Super happy to have you here and I'm sure you will be a great asset to the site with your background and skill sets! We're all here to help each other and enjoy the camaraderie that comes with these cars. Welcome to the fold! --Tom M
