Carpokes

Although I really loved the Blaupunkt Memphis Stereo in my 89 S2, I also really enjoy the Porsche Roads app, Rallista and other niceties that come with hand free Wireless CarPlay. After googling single DIN CarPlay, I decided to take a chance on a $140 Power Acoustiks unit that is exclusive to Walmart. I can almost hear the eyebrows raising and I had a similar response, but at $140 it seemed like a minimal risk... and to my great surprise it is an awesome little unit.

Pros:

• Easy to install with good instructions.

• Much larger screen than you would get with Porsche Classic PCM unit (and $1K cheaper)

• Sounds pretty good with 4x6 door speakers and my small pioneer subwoofer - credit dedicated sub-out with adjustable cross-over settings and 10 band EQ

• Wireless CarPlay was a breeze to setup.

• Ties into illumination circuit to auto-dim the display when you turn on your lights.

• You can adjust the LED colors to match your internal lights (almost - see 3rd pic)

• When it is off you really can't see the stereo

Cons:

• Flimsy remote I will never use

• Miss the period look of the Blaupunkt

I have bought a couple little gadgets from similar places, like Amazon, and sometimes you really luck out!

Thanks for the review. Can the purple buttons be changed to amber/orange? And can the unit be set a little deeper into the console? It’ll look cleaner that way and perhaps @Tom can 3D print a face plate cover for it to keep it from prying eyes!

Interesting find! I was looking at the blaupunkt too but this seems like a decent alternative. Maybe not as period-correct but the features seem worth it?

Apologies for the slow response!
Question 1 - The stereo has several color schemes for the buttons and the last pictures shows them with more of an amber color.
Question 2 - The depth is limited by the center console opening, but I do wish it could be set back further too. But with the lights out it really looks like just a blank plate.

After using it for several weeks I am still pretty bullish about it.
