Cubby below radio

I've had my 85.5 944 a few months now and it only had a blank panel below the radio. I've seen there's meant to be a storage cubby there so I designed this and printed in in PLA for extra storage. Since taking the pic I've added some black felt (as used in jewellery boxes) to the lower surface to stop thinks sliding and rattling.

The area below my radio had been monkeyed with so if this doesn't fit in our car let me know if anything fouls and I'll edit the design.

Attached the STL file and an Autodesk Fusion export.

I would suggest using ABS or ASA. PLA will easily soften and deform if left in a hot car

Yep good point. I only have PLA and not sure if my printer could handle ABS or ASA reliably - it maxes out at 240 degrees C. Do you think it would be worth trying @TerrorBytes ?

You'll need a printer with a decent heated bed and ideally a heated chamber. I print ABS all the time with no issues since my printer can accomodate these requirements

Would it be possible to share the original CAD file so i can use it as a basis for a combined cubby and boost gauge plate.?

This one is kind of complicated as it used an FDM printer for the plate and a resin printer for the cubby (which is printed in 2 or 3 pieces and screwed together so that it could be felt-lined).

I have a good STL for the panel that I'll post tomorrow. It has stand-off in front of the screw holes, which allows it to screw in tight without going getting pinched in at the bottom like most of the online STLs...

That's pretty much identical to what I had in mind. Appreciate you sharing !

What CAD program are you using? I'll often import STLs into Autodesk Fusion and then convert to a solid to modify. Although Tom's model looks better for your needs anyway :)

Thanks - I’ve just converted across to fusion and see that it can work with STL files so I have everything I need when combined with Tom’s plate too. Thanks for all the help.

Any Chance you have the design files for the cubby?
