Hello everyone after many years I have another 944. The last one I had was an 86 2.5 non-turbo I purchased in San Diego when I worked at a Lexus dealership drove it for a few years love the car and of course being in the car business, I got rid of it. After having many Porsche over my lifetime counted out 15 several 914s a few 911s one 928 also 944 turbo 386. Porsche was the best driver for a daily and did everything. It wasn’t fastest, but it was definitely great fun. So I recently picked up an 85 1/2 through a dealer site that I do business with trucking in from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and a well-maintained really nice car not knowing the time clock on the timing belt that’s the next task along with all fluid changes, breaks, checking tires etc one thing I did find is the tachometer is not working and I’m not thrilled with the voltage coming out of the voltage later the charging just slightly over the 12 V any ideas on that?

Welcome aboard. I moved your post to its own thread since it was in the thread about the digital timing belt tool. In addition to the timing and balance shaft belt, also take a very close look at the fuel hoses under the hood. They get old and leak and catch cars on fire routinely. Fuel hoses are now the #1 item to check in my book (followed by the belts) after confirming it runs, stops, and steers....
With the engine running, the voltage should be in the high 13's, low 14's. If yours is closer to 12, then most likely the alternator is not working right (and you'll have a dead battery soon), but a damaged battery can also do that. Check the battery voltage with the engine off. If should be close to 12.6. If less, it could have a shorted cell inside. Then check again with the engine on -- you should see something around 13.7 to 14.3. If less, the alternator or it voltage regulator are likely bad. You can take both the battery and the alternator to most national auto parts stores for testing.
Hard to say why the tach is not working without knowing more. The tach shares its signal with the ignition, so if the car is running, the signal exists to drive it. I have a way to bench test the tach if you are pulling to pull it out for testing. If the tach does work, then it's either the wiring to it, or problems with the cluster and/or the flexible circuit board it relies on.

Good morning from Palo Alto, California. The car now has 1600 since I drove it up here going to do a cars and coffee drive called the breakfast club rally today up in the Santa Cruz mountains. The car is driving amazing. The next thing I’m going to address when I’m home is the rear hatch seal it looks like it’s gonna need to be redone. Luckily the anodized trim around the window is in really good condition. Has anyone used the rear hatch seal material sold by 915 rubber.
