Starting in on a new to me 991.1 2S Manual project. After a couple of air cooled builds I needed a break and still have something to take to cars and coffee. Great air conditioning sounded appealing, the ability to take my wife to dinner and valet the car also sounded like a great idea. In the past I would not trust any of my air cooled builds to anyone I didn’t know and trust. While the diminished trust is still there the user friendliness of the modern Porsche helps to alleviate the anxiety.
I was looking for a 996 GT3, GT2 or a 997 variety. I even went as far as to start several builds on the Porsche website on a new “T”. Having a manual transmission was a must. I started a few builds with the Mahogony color as my starting point. I just seem to gravitate to this color. You never see it in my area and I think it shows off the 911 silhouette very well.
I stumbled onto this 991.1 2S 3.8 naturally aspirated car and wouldn’t let go. It was the color and the condition and the options the original owner went for. Active exhaust, 18 way sports seats with full leather,
Burmester sound, Car play added professionally, PASM, PDCC.
Options (AZ, Y8, P3C, P3A, 498, 636, 525, 748, 653, 352, 640, 176, XDA, VRP, P07, 345, CWK, 844, XWK)
Having sold my rebuilt 72 ( https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche ... hread.html) I had some funds for this project.
When the car got here, I hated the wheels. I did not want 20” wheels and felt like the additional side wall a 19” tire could provide would work well around my home. The roads are littered with numerous uneven surfaces and holes. I sourced a set of 19” Apex ML-10RT (19x9 and 19x11.5) in the anthracite color. For tires I went with the continental extreme contact sport DWS. The offset on both wheels are within a millimeter or 2 of the factory wheels. I will retain the 5mm factory spacers on both wheels.
As soon as the car got here I sent it to Icon for a through cleaning, paint correction and front PPF including
Lower rocker and the faces of the rear fenders.
I have a bunch of stuff on order to make this my own. I’ll post photos as I can.
Numeric Shifter for 991.
Rear seat delete from Porsche
911R Rear Grille Kit
Porsche Sport Design “Ducktail” Spoiler
Lowering springs for the active suspension
Rear diffuser
Side skirts TBD
Front lip spoiler TBD
New front seat inserts
And several other goodies. I have a healthy budget due to the fact that I did not buy a GT3 or GT2.
