Removing PDK knob

I'm trying to help a shy Carpokian remove the PDK shifter knob from this boot. Based on the pics he sent me, I assume the trick is to compress all 4 of those tang-clips to pull the knob up and out? Yes? If so, any tricks for getting it done? His toothpick approach is falling short. To a hammer, everything looks like a nail -- so no surprise my first instinct would be to 3D print a tube that can be pushed down over the tangs to compress them all at once. Anyone have any other suggestions?

I haven't taken a Porsche knob off, but I'm not sure if those 4 posts are holding it in. Have you tried unlocking the knob with a 90 deg rotation on the lower part of the shaft? When it's unlocked, then maybe you can pull it off the boot.

See video, start at 2:56:

Thanks Marin -- I think he's trying to take the knob part out of the boot part, rather than just locking it on/off the shifter rod.

I think it might be related. When it's in the unlocked state, maybe then it's easy to separate the boot and knob?

I think those tang-clips just hold the whole fixture onto the metal shifter rod in the car?

push each tab in (I used an eyeglasses screwdriver)
while pulling away on the knob
which helped disengage the tabs, one at a time
