215 60 15 tire availability

I have a 86 944 NA and I’m looking for tire options in the 215 60 15 size.
I’m only seeing all-season tires with high tread ratings.
I’m looking for more of a summer tire.
What brand and model tire is everyone running?

There is not a lot of options in that tire size as its not very standard anymore. The sizes with the most options:
205/55 for 7" wheels
225/50 for 8" wheels
Ive had great luck with Continental Extreme Contact Sports - 345 treadwear, good street/performance tire that does well in wet or dry. Albeit those above sizes are probably better suited for a 16" wheel
If moving 215/60/15 the only performance tire I am finding is the Pirelli P6000 and they are crazy expensive. Otherwise you will need to settle with an all season tire

I’m also running my original staggered 15” Fuchs set on my ’86, so I feel your pain. Although it has to be said that here across the pond in Europe we at least have some options also in the factory-correct 215/60/15 size. I have a good previous experience with Continental summer tires, at the moment I’m running Kumho Solus which I don’t like that much, might go back to Continental. IMHO it should be illegal to ruin the 944s exceptional handling with all-season tires.

I ran into the same thing with wanting a more performance based tire, but not willing to pay for the Pirelli. I'm currently running Falken Sincera and they have exceeded expectations on the street/mountain curves! The plan now is to grab something sticky for autocross and HPDE. I have a spare set of phone dials just for this.

I put on some new Hankook Kinergy PT tires due to their low price (and I am not planning to track / push the car to the limit). I highly recommend if looking for a budget friendly tire option in 215/60/R15
