For my past Porsches, I have always added a can of Techron to the last tank of fuel before an oil change. Does anyone have a reason to believe that this should not be done, or believe there is no benefit? Or is there a better additive to clean up the fuel system?

I've had a bunch of Audi 4 cylinder turbos - the dealers service department service protocol was to add Techron to the gas tank and advise go for a spirited drive !!!!

Techron is good for cleaning fuel injectors - never did any harm as far as my experience go's.

Which gasoline supplier and what grade of fuel are you using? I use Chevron Supreme which already contains the Techron fuel additive. Haven't found the need to add additional to the fuel.

I have always used Chevron super unleaded up until about 2 years ago when their stations started going away in this area for some unknown reason. Now, I use either Exxon super unleaded or Shell super unleaded exclusively.

I believe that both Exxon and Shell Super unleaded also contain additives. But, definitely can't hurt to add Techron before your oil changes. It is a great product and highly recommended by mechanics.

Can’t hurt. My dealer just tried to sell me a fuel system service for $250 when I was in for my first year service. Hard pass.

I think it's a good idea too, DI engines are notorious for valve deposits. I try to use it every 4th-5th tank full but forget sometimes. Hey, I'm going out right now and dump some in.

It's obviously not going to hurt anything. But I agree, if you're using top tier gas, you're probably in good shape without the additives. If you buy the cheaper stuff (because nothing is cheap these days), it's probably a good idea. All of the top tier gas stations have an additive package. I'm not sure if some are really better than others.

I’m def no expert but throttlesteer’s comment is how I’ve always understood it. We have a shell very close to us and their premium is all I use for our cars.

This discussion always reminds me of the time when bmw n54 failures started cropping up, bmw blamed the gas. A class action suit on hpfp’s soon followed… you can guess the rest. I guess I was lucky as I never had any issues with that engine and thought it it’s tuning capacity was crazy.
