When I received my 992 carrera in May the tire pressures were front/rear 40/48 cold. I initially trust my dealership and didn't second guess this until the road noise got to me and I read my manual. Quickly dropped them to 30/36 (weather 60-80F, bay area) and reset the sensors. Big improvement in comfort but looking for advice from others.

Where does everyone else keep their tires pressures? Do you change it for track or spirited drives?

On my GTS the door jam says that the F are 35 and R 47, which I though was too high but I went ahead and made them that way. So I had my break in oil change, because I wanted to and the tech said that my pressure was too high so he changed them. He said that for my car it should be F 33 and R 36.

My suspicion is that those factory numbers are part of the mpg/emissions goals that also force you into normal drive mode (which lugs the motor) and auto start-stop, etc. First thing my dealer did was reset the tpms to 'comfort mode' so they could lower the tire pressure without lighting up the dash. I'd have to look, but they are now in the neighborhood of 33/36. 47 psi makes for some pretty stiff tires/ride.... maybe needed at 175mph, I dunno, but the comfort setting is, well, more comfortable for me.

My 991 has an advanced tire pressure sensor read out in the right instrument binnacle. While you are looking at the tire pressures on the dashboard push the little wheel on the right side of the steering wheel. there are preset settings for comfort and full load. The TPMS monitoring system will tell you if you are under or over these recommended settings. I would trust the computer to help you with this. You can search all day and night on the net or use the power of Porsches engineers to set pressure and you are right- 30/36 is the “comfort” setting.

I have about 800 miles on my 992 GTS, and would like to drop my tire pressure to the comfort settings. How do I reset the sensors? Thanks in advance for your help!

I recently reduced the tire pressure on my 911
my front 36 to 33 psi and my back from 44 to 41 psi
reduced all by 3 psi with the result being a much smoother ride ( my filling no longer rattle )

the ride is much improved with no sacrifice in handling

I had read that the psi # on the door plate are of German origin and related to tire pressure meant for the unlimited speeds of the Autobahn - there are no hwy's in NA with unlimited speed so I'm enjoying a smoother ride and maybe improved traction and sacrificing some rolling resistance

My factory recommended pressures are in the higher ranges. 36 pounds F and 42 rear (cold temps). The engine is located in the rear, so the pressures go up on cars after driving.

It works well on street use for good wear and good gas mileage.

I plan to race my Porsche 992 car next month in a HPDE at Atlanta Motorsport event.

I have a tire temp gauge to measure the temps after the first run. The temps should be the same across the tire. If the outside is hot, I will lower tire pressure to get a better contact patch on the track. The plan is to get an equal tire grip over a few hot laps.

Road Atlanta is different. You will need to start with +2 lbs. less on all four tires. It's faster with less tight turns.

Does anyone know if switching over to 'comfort' pressure is a user-selectable setting -- or is that something the dealer has to do? My dealer tech told me he set my car to 'comfort' pressure (so that the tpms thinks 36psi is enough) but I'm not finding that setting...?

It's on p296 of the 992 Owner's Manual.

Thanks Tim. The manual: who would have thought to look there. I'll have to go back and look again -- I was right in that area of the menu and couldn't find it.
