Occupation: consulting engineer for large-scale IP networks.

Became obsessed with Porsches while attending the 24 hours at Daytona in 1980. Plus two of my colleagues at my new job out of college owned multiple Porsches.

Current fun rides: 2021 Boxster T, 2022 Mini Cooper Countryman JCW (wife’s car, she used to drive a Macan Turbo), 2022 Mini Cooper S Hardtop 2dr.

Better establish my marque bonafides. Crappy 1969 911T Targa in college, when I wised up and had more money - 1969 911S Targa (the one I let get away), and then a 1980 911SC coupe (no more leaky targa tops for me); sunroof a great substitute. Until recently, it was all Mercedes: 1975 Euro 350SE, 1992 Euro 300CE-24 Sportline with 5-speed Getrag, and an SLK320 6-speed (911 substitute). Then I bought a friend’s 2015 Cayenne. Back in the fold. Still own the Mercs, however.

Welcome aboard -- great to have you! I retired early myself and there are plenty of retired car diehards here. Yes, the site is about Porsches, but most Porsche fans are car fans in general, and the Mercedes in particular is a pretty close kissing cousin. In fact, I spent most of the day working on the CIS injection on mine.

Thank you, Tom. Which 107 is that pretty car? Aside from the Mercs which total 8 including a 190E 2.3-16, two Bimmers, and an Audi S4.

Have you considered a Haltech lobotomy for the SL? Might do it on the D-Jet 350SE.

Tim in Tennessee. Porsches nowadays but an old Corvette guy in the past. Still racing a bit in WRL and ChampCar with my friends out of Huntsville, but mostly enjoying track days in the GT4. Lots of good tracks in these parts and more on the way!

Tim, where is that track? I'm not too far from Huntsville but not familiar with that one. I used to run my Bimmers at Little Talledega down below Anniston.

Bill it's Polecat - PTC (Polecat Training Center/Polecat Training Academy) between Lynchburg and Fayetteville (which is actually closer to Huntsville than my home near Nashville). It's a private facility that opened this year using rebuilt former Skip Barber and Bertil Roos open wheel Formula 2000 cars for Polecat's training classes.

We are probably the first non-school group to use it for private track events (driving our own cars). Owen Trinkler is involved with the facility and has put it all together for us. There's plenty of room for more participants if you or any others in our area are interested. I'll be there this Friday and again a couple of times in November.

By the way, I still race some in WRL and ChampCar with our team and my friends out of Huntsville.
