Thought I would share my allocation experience and confirm there is light at the end of the Cayman GTS 4.0 allocation tunnel.
15 Dec 22: The much wanted allocation call came with a caveat. I must submit my finalized build within hours because the dealer was trading an on-site Boxster GTS for a Cayman GTS 4.0 allocation. The latter's build submission window was closing. This was not an issue as I had configured my build many time over. I had my family review my final build and submitted. Within the hour I received a CC payment request for $2,500.
The build: PPLLBJV9 Note: I meant to delete the wheel lock option, but it slipped by.
Background:
19 Mar 22: I processed my initial CGTS 4.0 allocation with EUR delivery with my local dealer and paid a $500 deposit. Separately, upon visiting Porsche-owning family members in neighboring states I visited their local dealers and requested a EUR delivery allocation. In every case I was never given my allocation "standing" other than I was near the top of the list. They all forewarned me the process could be as long as a year. I stayed in phone/email/text contact with all dealerships and visited my two local dealers (an hours drive) on a near monthly basis.
19 Aug 22: Fortuitously, my wife and I flew to TX to pickup a birthday present for her - a CPO MACAN S. While there I requested an allocation. This dealer offered the allocation that would come through four months later. They said I was "part of the family" and would facilitate the allocation. True to their word, they did.
30 Nov 22: (approx) The TX dealer inquired if I was interested in a Boxster GTS 4.0.
16 Dec 22:
-I received the "Track Your Dream Link" from Porsche inviting me to log into the Porsche portal.
-The tracking portal reflected 1of 4: "Your order is created". Later in the day updated to : 2 of 4 "Your vehicle is now schedule for production." However, a recent check has me back to the original 1 of 4 "Your order is created".

Good build - it's going to be a great-looking car! The subtle and refined Aventurine Green Metallic is one I like very much, a favorite. Couldn't do any better on the interior colors either. The combo inside and out is excellent. The build is very clean which I personally like.
The "Track Your Dream" process is a lot of fun but it can be all over the map. In my experience and that of some others, estimated timelines are rarely, if ever, close to exact, but the finished steps and their dates should be mostly spot-on once the process advances a bit more. However, accurate TYD doesn't really matter that much to me as it's meant to be a fun window into what's to come. It does a great job in that respect.
Enjoy your European delivery - that will be a really nice additional treat on top of a fantastic car!

Beautiful build - love the interior / exterior. I noticed the door handles configured in high gloss glass but the photo shows them in silver? Probably just a glitch with configurator.

The handover of the Speed Excitement Torch (SET). My Cayman GTS 4.0 allocation will replace my beloved 2007 Honda S2000. I honor S2000 by posting on this forum. I purchased the barn parked, still in warranty S2000- sight unseen, from the widow of the original owner. The S2000 is an exciting car made all the more so, with a bolt-on Science of Speed supercharger. An informal family agreement is we are only allowed one "keeper." In truth it keeps the wife happy. The other cars come and go, so must the S2000. I drove it this afternoon and for a nanosecond briefly reconsidered the Cayman...

How many miles does the Honda have now? Considering the circumstances you briefly mentioned, I'm assuming it had very few miles when you bought it.

Someone will be getting a great, well-cared for car. It shows! I need another car like I need another hole in the head, but your S2000 is one that I'd be proud to own. (No, I'm not inquiring although it's a temptation on a car like yours.)rowca wrote: Mon Dec 26, 2022 3:53 pm Appreciate the sentiment. It was very low mileage on purchase - it now reads 43,800. I will ensure it goes to a good home.
However, rest assured - you're going to love your new Cayman!

A hiccup. I had hoped to chronicle my Leipzig ED experience. However, my dealer informed me that Leipzig deliveries are booked through June. The logical option was to take delivery stateside and I opted for the Atlanta Experience Center. Presently, I am scheduled to receive the car in Mid-March. Obviously, I remain very happy and feel indeed fortunate to have a received an allocation.

Eh, on the bright side, your excitement about your new Cayman will be unchanged and you won't have to worry about cancelled flights and other travel headaches. Save moolah too. (I'm always looking for the positive side of things!)rowca wrote: Sat Jan 14, 2023 11:06 am A hiccup. I had hoped to chronicle my Leipzig ED experience.
