Thanks for the post and the info! (Also thanks for same device and for pics from @Bluehighways )Al B wrote: Mon Feb 20, 2023 6:19 am I have just installed the Garmin Mini 2 dashcam in my 981 Cayman S.
If you have the auto dimming rear view mirror, you can simply tap into the connector in the mirror housing using Dongar Technologies (San Francisco based) adaptor for Porsche (about $40).
It was easy (5 minutes, no kidding) and results in a clean one short wire (maybe 2.5" showing) for USB connector from under mirror housing to camera.
It looks great, is tiny, and hardly noticeable from inside the cabin or outside.
The camera itself is basic. The quality is decent and the camera turns on and shuts off with the car.
Just what I wanted, no GPS recording your speed. There is a good YouTube video on line showing how it is done in a 911. My Cayman worked out to be the same.
The Mini 2 does seem to be a very good option. Basic, small, and unobtrusive is a big plus for me. I like Garmin's products based on our many years of using them. The Mini 2 can take up to a 512GB microSD. Also available cloud storage via Garmin's Vault service which at first glance appears to be similar to Google's Aware video storage for Nest products.
More info and specs at Garmin's website:

I may have to bite the bullet and go with a cam - there are just too many absolute idiots on the roads that have zero driver awareness and zero driving skills. Head on a swivel at all times is a must for me but even that is not necessarily going to be enough, so best to be prepared I guess.
By the way, welcome to Carpokes!

so here is my modified wiring harness which plugs into the Porsche Dashcam prewiring.
It will supply switched and constant 12v and ground. These are the 3 wires appearing out of the yellow sleeve. I will use the switched 12v for my radar detector. I need to test the usb C connector on the Porsche camera dock to determine what is the output voltage - if it is switched 5v I will be able to connect an aftermarket dash cam to dock connector with a usb C to micro usb cable.
For some reason there’s a video output as part of the harness - I don’t know where this connects in the car - if at all ???

I'll be adding camera(s) soon. Thinking about the Garmin Mini 2 as suggested by others on this thread.

I specified my cabriolet with the dash cam prewiring which provides a connector behind the overhead courtesy light panel. The connector has a ground, switched 12v and permanent 12v source.
My original plan was to install the Porsche OEM camera harness, which I purchased. A couple of issues caused my plans to change.
The cabriolet has very limited space behind the courtesy light compared with the coupe since the cabriolet latching mechanism takes up a chunk of space in this area.
I could have packed the harness in the space under the plastic cover, below the courtesy light, but I chose not to since I don't plan on using the Porsche OEM camera.
I also determined that the camera dock for the Porsche camera, in typical Porsche fashion, uses a proprietary connector not a USB C connector, so I couldn't use the dock to supply an aftermarket dash cam.
So I hacked off the male connector from the Porsche wiring harness I purchased and used this to connect the female connector behind the courtesy light panel. I used this to provide switched 12v to my radar detector and to a 12v to 5v converter which will power my aftermarket 70Mai dash cam.
