Has anyone attempted to create a 3D printed rear main seal installation tool?

Just thought of this the other day and figured it maybe a handy tool to have. I borrowed an SST tool from my workplace that got the seal started but the inner diameter wouldn't clear the end of the crankshaft like a proper rear main seal SST for our engines would.

Has anyone attempted to create an 3D such a tool for our rear main seals?

That's a good idea! I have not seen a model for it, but I do have the factory tool (after a DIY PVC tool resulted in a leak), so could work off that to model one. I'll put it on the list, but it will be a while I'm sure -- so maybe not a solution to your immediate issue. :(

No worries! Reason I brought it up was because I'm pretty sure my rear main seal is leaking due to improper installation. I must've either not driven it in all the way (according to the FSM the seal actually bottoms out against a stop, which I'm not used too) or maybe damaged it with my Toyota SST lol.

I believe that there is one designed by someone over on RL. Let me see if I can find you the link to Thingiverse (?); the design file was made publicly accessible.

ETA: Here you go - https://www.printables.com/model/205318 ... ation-tool

ETA2: Jinx!

Cheers

Let us know how it goes. .STL's can be hit or miss, so if this one has any issues, I'm still happy to make one here. :)

I have a printed one I got from RL. Not sure I'll ever use it. I can post a few pictures if anyone wants to see how it works.

Will do! I read the one and only comment on the website for that .STL and the user said he had some difficulty with his first printed tool. Seems like this particular tool maybe a bit hit or miss. There's no substitute for the official tried and true Porsche tool. Not really wanting to drop 200-300$ on the Porsche tool either lol.
