Posting a few pictures with a plate installed over these mounts. The plates sit 12 - 13mm off the bumper and look perfectly natural this way, to me. There's no right or wrong with esthetics, but when I see metal plates screwed directly against a painted bumper, I cringe a little inside.

First, awesome looking car. Second, I'm fairly sure that the PPF installer removed the US-spec license plate surround frame in that picture. This came up in another thread where -- see post #79 onward in this thread:paxton wrote: Fri Nov 19, 2021 6:19 pm @Tom
See picture below of a 992GT3 getting PPF. Looks like the license plate area has an added raised pattern inside the rectangle, do you think this will be a problem with the mounts?

You can see in that thread there is a 992 Turbo bumper with the same US-spec license plate surround removed, and the bumper looks quite similar to your picture in terms of the plate mounting area. I assume those grooves and holes are set up to accept a license plate surround for multiple markets. If you look at my 992 Turbo above, with the Nebraska plates installed, you can see that the surround piece (with the bumperettes left and right) is actually a separate piece that your (super thorough) PPF installer appears to have removed. I don't think a US plate would even cover all that up honestly... See if I have that right, and please report back. If there's an issue with any North American 992 bumper style, I'd like to know for sure.
Thanks Tom - This is not my car so hard to verify in person. I think you are correct in that the US bracket is removed and the mounts should work just fine once re-installed.Tom wrote: Fri Nov 19, 2021 6:54 pm

I was just looking at a friend's brand new US-spec 992GT3 and the license plate holder thing looked to be the same part as is on my Turbo. I've also shipped these mounts to 992GT3 owners and haven't heard of any problems.
I did once see an early base 992 with black textured plastic on that part of the bumper instead of smooth paint. The owner used my mounts anyway and they seemed to work fine, but the molding tape is designed to work on smooth painted surfaces. I haven't seen one like that since...

Hi Guys. I think that white 992 GT3 in the picture is mine. Does anybody know if the picture was taken at Metro Detail in Redmond WA? I had a full PPF done. If so, the car is coming home today! Yipeee!!! Mitch

The 10mm screws supplied are long enough for nearly all frames/plates. I'm sure some custom/novelty frames might be too thick for the supplied screws, but I've yet to come across one on a Porsche. Nothing wrong with going to a longer screw if you really need it, but you just need to be careful that they don't go in so far that they hit the bumper, which could scratch the bumper and effectively push the mount away from the car.ENCT wrote: Wed Dec 01, 2021 7:36 am Has anyone used these mounts with a thin license plate frame? Curious if I will need a longer bolt, maybe 12mm?
Thanks,
Eric
Also look at your plates. Some plates have beads around the edge that prevent a frame from sitting flush against the plate, which creates a gap between the frame and plate. In those cases, the frame may hold the screw further away from the threads, justifying a longer screw. Most frames are cheap, however, and will flex to let the 10mm screws still work (see last pic below). If you have a plate like that, which forces the fame away from the plate, you are better off using a plastic spacer (or washers) under the frame and a longer screw if needed, so that you are not bending the frame tabs and potentially pulling on the mounting tape. More than anyone ever wanted to know about license plate frames, but hey, that's what I do.
For reference, these are the screws I supply:

If you look on McMaster, you can get the same screw in longer lengths if needed.
These are the 10mm long screws I supply. They still "reach" despite the gap with this plate/frame combo, but the frame tabs get bent in when tightening the screws. If you have this situation, you should put spacers behind the frame to fill the gap and get longer screws if the 10mm versions don't reach.

just adding another note to this thread.
i finally got around to putting on my 2022 reg sticker for my car and so glad i have these spacers on. unscrewed the plate, placed sticker on, screwed plate back on and everything is still solid with no worries about wearing out the plastic bumper holes.
