I did not actually do anything of interest this week but did have the detail shop replace the PPF in front of my rear tires that had failed due to track time and debris being flung at it. I was not expecting it to have failed in only one year, their perspective was that at least I did not have to repaint the panel. Check mate!

I've also replaced the rocker molding PPF and that of the rear wheel arches, pieces behind the rear wheels and other bits. Track will do a number on PPF. And yes, much better than painting.

I put the GT4 in the club's Concours last fall before the off-season PPF repair. I made up an info sheet, put it in a plastic clear 8.5 x 11 easel and set it on the ground by the rear tire. It read:

"One more reason to appreciate the many benefits of PPF is the protection from track day crud (rubber, asphalt, etc.) that collects on the lower areas of the body.

Over time some of this debris will become embedded and unremovable from the PPF protecting the paint, but that’s preferred to potential damage to the finish.

At the end of a track season, it’s good to know that you can easily have the PPF replaced in the harder hit areas such as rocker panels, wheel arches and the like."

I made an excuse for the judges regarding the partially worn look of some of the more vulnerable PPF protected areas.

My car's prior owner had spray-on PPF applied (Clarity Coat) when new. While most of it has held up to street use well (no track time), after 30k miles the rockers were looking tired. So last fall I peeled it off and had them recoated with Expel. Just the rockers, the rest seems to be holding up just fine. So the rocker PPF is a wear item IMO, even for strictly street use.

As for what I did today, I updated the Nav maps to the latest 2024 version, and activated Power Steering Plus with my X431. Not sure the PPS+ is all that big a deal, but I figured I'd give it a try.

The Little Chalk Croc just had the Stek PPF application finished so I now have some paint protection for the track. She is currently up in the air at Porsche of Omaha getting Tarett Camber plates and Tarett rear toe control arms ( motorsport style ) installed. After that she is going on the alignment rack for a track set up with specs provided by blueline and jDub!!

PS - figured out why my previous posted Dyno numbers were so good, I did add a chalk colored Carpokes mode control dial prior to any testing!

Thanks for sharing your PPF experiences all. And Bill that Chalk Croc looks great but I know it will drive even better after the Tarett treatment!

It's time! I ordered a GT4rs PDK shifter conversion for my 718 from Suncoast a little while back. I had it sent to the mad scientist EdGuards to have the stitching changed to chalk to match my interior, with a little extra touch with the guards red embroidered "718" to match the guards red accents... I should have it installed in a week or 2.

Sneak Peak....
