Sometimes I wish I kept the 944 motor but it’s too late for that. lol
Can I ask why, just curious. I’m assuming cost and complexity?pestilence68 wrote: Fri May 31, 2024 7:25 am Sometimes I wish I kept the 944 motor but it’s too late for that. lol
I am also curious how the i5 compares to a 3.0 16v turbo (S2 or 968) engine. I have a complete S2 engine that is not selling, it’s like the Universe is telling me to build it into a turbo engine as I first intended lol

It was going to cost me 20k to get this factory motor up to the specs of this, and it would not have the reliability. Plus the modern parts and availability of them.944m3 wrote: Sat Jun 01, 2024 10:13 amCan I ask why, just curious. I think a turbo 16v would be awesome. You don’t see many so im not sure in their reliability.
I definitely spent way more than building the stock
Motors for the swap and swap parts, but I like the cheapness of replacement engines, and the retro mod aspect.

The 07k engine seems hard to break and can make lots of power like many other modern turbocharged engines. It probably makes more sense these days to build one of these for a 944 than mess around with the Porsche engine. It depends which engine one decides has the highest cool factor.
Just curious if it is not possible to increase capacity?
Years ago I considered building a 2.7 out of a 01E which seemed possible with the crank of some diesel version, but eventually decided against it as it would have cost more than the 3.0 16V and I just preferred carrying on "studying" the old 944/968 stuff even with its drawbacks that are now at least well documented.
Congratulations for the hard work and interested to hear more about your build. What turbo is it? Stock long block?

Thanks! Stock long block for now. Have a brand new 07k on the pallet that I’m going to build. Probably do a girdle and 5 bolt mains. The turbo is a g25-660 with room for a g35. So I have so big power options.Thom wrote: Fri Jun 07, 2024 11:56 am The 07k engine seems hard to break and can make lots of power like many other modern turbocharged engines. I have the rev limiter set to 7200. With factory cams and a small turbo it wouldn’t make any power over that.Thom wrote: Tue Jun 11, 2024 9:38 am How high can the 07K be revved, at least with the stock top end? I would imagine around 8000 rpm?
