Need MaxxECU base tune

Thanks for the advice Tom, but it’s to late for me, I’ve got the bug lol

Just for clarity, I already purchased the MaxxECU, which came with an adapter for stock harness and a base tune, and I’m giving it a try. The no start issue is with this standalone.

It is just a fun hobby for me and just super curious to learn how to tune a car (watching to many car YouTube videos). The car was running ok with stock ECU and A-tune but just feel like tinkering. Is it smart, probably not. But then again owning a sports car fast approaching 40 years old is probably not smart either lol

Trust me, most of the stuff I've done on my 951 over the years 'doesn't make sense.' I'm right there with you. The list of things I've done on my car simply out of curiosity and that sense of "I bet I can do that..." is nearly endless (note the speed/ref test set up for example...). My comments were just in case you were 'sold' on the idea that a stand-alone was an easy fix for bad speed/ref sensors. Given where you are, I'd ditch the factory speed/ref sensors and call chris or Clewett, etc. to get a 60-2 trigger set up.

I honestly think a lot of the trigger issues people see on the stock setup are badly screened cables or screens not properly grounded. If you use an adapter harness to the old crumbly old stock harness your going to have a bad time.

I know some people having trouble with the 951 trigger setup.
I changed to 60-2 front trigger on mine.

Years of reading all of your posts, I knew trying the adapter with my old harness was a gamble but thought it was worth a shot. I knew with the built in oscilloscope I could troubleshoot any sensor or harness issue. That’s how we identified the sensor signal issue. It was one of the selling points for the MaxxECU, for me anyways.

I’ve ordered a bracket kit and will try with a trigger wheel. That being said, I always planned on making a new harness. Was trying to buy some time. All part of the journey.

you may consider just changing out your stock sensor. Its an old magnetic sensor with old wiring and connectors running a very weal signal, any degradation will hurt. BTW – its also not uncommon to have worn teeth on the starter ring gear – may also give false signals.

The sensors are fairly new, replaced them a couple of years ago. I’ll play around with the gap. But I’m fine just going with a trigger wheel if I can’t get it to work.

Check under the rubber boots on the connectors -- on the engine harness side. See link below. It's so common that multiple vendors sell patch harnesses to replace that section of the factory engine harness. I eventually just installed an all-new Kroon harness and can't say enough good things about it, although for a stand-alone, you'd probably want a custom harness with connectors for the various non-factory sensors you end up using (cam position, map, trigger wheel, etc).

If the sensors are newer then I’d definitely be looking at the OE loom. Unless your loom is also newer it’s likely quite crusty and potentially damaged somewhere internally.

I use a front mount 60-2 from Clewett and found it to be by far the nicest and cleanest solution if not using 60-2 flywheel. If you move to front mount I’d recommend that one. However, that will be zero help if your OE side loom is suspect. So again I’d start there first.

If you do find you need to switch to front mount and decide you like the Clewett I am removing mine for flywheel trigger with a new build and would be willing to sell mine.

Curious why you say the front mount will be zero help if the factory harness is suspect? Do people use the factory harness for front-mount triggers? :wtf: :o Isn't that like serving a Gordon Ramsay meal on a paper plate?
