My four year service is coming up this year and they told me it would be about $5000 which blew me away… i’ve been thinking about researching and finding a Porsche mechanic that’s not a dealer but part of me thinks that might be shortsighted. Any thoughts?

That's expensive. What vehicle? Did the quote include anything else by chance? Did it possibly include your state's sales tax?

I recently had the full 4-yr service on my '22 Turbo S completed at the dealer which included oil/filter and the associated new parts, cabin air and allergen filters, both of the engine air filters, brake fluid flush, all drains cleaned /unclogged, the always pricey spark plug service, the regular complimentary checks, fluid top offs, and a few other minor services. Cost was approximately $3,400 before a PCA discount and roughly $325 tax.

I have 23 macan base and this price was before tax and before pca discount…
Do you know if most Porsche owners service at the dealer long term or look to an outside mechanic who can service a Porsche.
I don’t want to compromise service over price but $5k is a tough pill to swallow

I have no idea of the numbers but I imagine most driving late model Porsches use the dealership due to the increasing and mind boggling complexity of the new cars, as well as the lack of the diagnostic equipment and tools from outside shops. I always use the dealership service dept. Fortunately, I have a long-standing and superb relationship with everyone there.

Outside mechanics can often save you money but finding a truly good one who knows the marque is critical. The question will also resolve as to what work needs to be done. Then there are parts to consider which might need to come from the dealership or a Porsche parts source and are never cheap. Some outside mechanics will cut corners, either on purpose or because they don't know the details. However, assuming there are no issues or irregular problems, a regular-interval type service shouldn't be a problem for a good mechanic skilled with Porsches who is also comfortable with modern systems and components.

Thanks for the reply and I do think it makes sense to stick with the dealer. I don’t want to be Pennywise and dollar foolish.
