Heck, Josh, even though I have been a PCA Instructor for about 20 years, my wife and I got our first Porsche last year --- a Macan S for her. I did follow later in 2023 getting a new Cayman GTS , fulfilling a dream, not unlike you, that started when I was around 11. Dreams do come true and many of us have found the wait was worth it.

You will enjoy it here, folks love to help each other.

Thanks! I bet it is a noticeable percentage who have long wanted in!

Welcome to Carpokes. I bought my first Porsche three years ago just before my 67th birthday. I’m enjoying my car and learning something new each day. Thanks for joining!
Best,
Larry
Thank you, Larry! :)
Learning A LOT so far.

blueline wrote: Tue Nov 19, 2024 1:49 pm Hey Josh! You are not alone - we are all learning a little bit more every day. Also, many of us here are refugees from other marques and Carpokes is as good a place as one could hope for to enjoy the Porsche all-levels knowledge quest.

Welcome to the site and thanks for joining up!
Ha! Appreciate that! Definitely a refugee from another marque.
When you're as new as me, each drive feels like a "level-up" for now.

!!Wow!!

Yeah, the Cayman GTS is definitely a dream car too. Gotta be quite a weapon for you with all that instructional experience. Cheers on that! Does your wife still love the Macan?

Wife loves the Macan and I will admit to spending my mod dollars on tires, wheels, GT3 style A-arms, camber plates, rear toe control arms, Ferodo 3.12 pads, etc. I fully respect that Porsche owners like to accessorize in different ways, but it all is part of the same passion. My Mistress of motoring is an Asphalt Assaulting Assassin and she just loves to annihilate vehicles of less beauty and style, ha!

The Carpoke Corral is a fun place to hang your hat and sit for a spell, we all have some fun tales to tell!

You're in good company here, Get2it. Good blokes and the auto equivalent of what we aviation guys call 'Hanger Flying.' All that's needed is a potbelly stove, a cracker barrel and a bottle of 'Third-Redeye', LoL! That is indeed a beautiful red 356. Always lusted after one...perhaps in the next life-cycle! As it is, I can't even afford dreaming about a 356, being relegated now to the status of an impoverished pensioner, sob. Welcome!

I never got my Garmin Catalyst hooked up , so as of now I do not have any track videos of my Cayman GTS. Hope to have it all ready for the 2025 Time Trial and DE Season as the little Chalk Croc is quite capable, it just lacks a bit of ummph against the big boys ( Viper ACR-X , GT4 RS ) going down a long straight. Ironically the gentleman who owns both the Viper and the GT4 is the only individual that has passed the GTS this year. I will be going to a few bigger events this coming year so that minor track record will be falling plenty of times. I will say it was quite satisfying to blow by a C8 driven by an experienced driver at an event, ha!

Welcome
I think you will find many here are car nuts in general, including myself. Italian, British, German, Japanese, American, French...all have strengths and weaknesses, but it seems once you've driven a Porsche, you feel like you just came home.....
What did you race? I'm 70 X racer....Crossle FF.

I am Mike Ray, a retired attorney, and live near Cashiers, NC. My present Porsches are a 2013 Boxster S and a 2016 Macan Turbo. My first Porsche was a 1970 914-6 I bought new. I have owned a 912, a 911 and another Boxster - as well as an MG-TD, MGB and an AMX.

Hi Mike! Welcome to Carpokes!

Nice Porsche history - the 914-6 that you bought new really stands out - awesome Porsche - and one that you bought new! It would be so fine to have one now.

Coming out of the service long ago, I had a huge hankering for an MGB but it never came to be. Also had a friend in even earlier days (high school) who had a super cool MG-TD. Don't remember the model year but I'll never forget the car.
