If you have the auto dimming rear view mirror, you can simply tap into the connector in the mirror housing using Dongar Technologies (San Francisco based) adaptor for Porsche (about $40).
It was easy (5 minutes, no kidding) and results in a clean one short wire (maybe 2.5" showing) for USB connector from under mirror housing to camera.
It looks great, is tiny, and hardly noticeable from inside the cabin or outside.
The camera itself is basic. The quality is decent and the camera turns on and shuts off with the car.
Just what I wanted, no GPS recording your speed. There is a good YouTube video on line showing how it is done in a 911. My Cayman worked out to be the same.
Well, that did not go so well for me. On a 992, it was a little tricky getting access to the wire but after discovering the hidden screw the holds the mini-light console, I was able to gain access. When I connected the Dongar adaptor, cable and mini 2 cam, then turned ignition on, nothing happened but an airbag failure warning on instrument cluster. Thankfully, I unplugged everything put it back together and the warning went away. The YouTube video I found of a 911 was not a 992, so the wiring was different even though the plug was the same. I may try it again after doing more research.

I assume the Dongar harness includes a 12v to 5v converter.

You could power this from the switched 12v wires in the blue connector. The ground goes to the clear middle wire the switched 12v goes to the white wire in the blue connector.

These are the same as the mirror tap connections that have been well documented.

Good luck πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Still, no luck. I reached out to Dongar to see what they say. There's only one way this connector fits, and when it's connected, no power to the dash cam and airbag failure warning issued. The other set of blue connectors to the left doesn't fit the adaptor. So either, 1) Dongar doesn't make the 992 adaptor, 2) there's another connector that is hidden somewhere else, or 3) I'm a bonehead. My vote is # 3.

Here's a pic of the adaptor:

I guess the purpose of the Dongar is to tap a switched 12v supply and convert it to 5v and feed a USB connector.

The switched 12v supply in your 992 can be obtained from the cars blue connector using the clear and the white wire.

If the Dongar is not working then they haven’t tapped the correct wires to give you a switched supply.

I would either trace out the harness and correct the problem or probably just cut off the USB converter and using the mirror tap technique connect it to the clear and white wires shown in the above picture.

As best I can tell from your pic there is no USB connection to the middle wire of the connector.
On the 992 the blue connectors middle connection provides ground (clear insulation).

I found this spec sheet online for the Dongar.

This is not the correct pin out - ground has to be pin 2 πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

I noticed that 992 models are not listed on the compatibility description of what you found on the Dongar, further supporting your incorrect pin observation.

Yes - I kept the full set that Tom made for my Python Green coupe and painted them Shark Blue - they look really good πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™B15E23FC-DC82-45E9-A093-B61E1AE03854.jpegE4E889F9-FF1A-4B4E-B435-8CCE75EDACE0.jpeg

No way! I had offered here to get you a blue set -- since I LOVED the python set, and then saw the blue ones on your car and assumed I had just lost my mind and forgot doing them in blue for you. Did you use the Rustoleum 'Sail Blue' -- it's a virtual ringer for Shark Blue. Did you sand off the base/clear Python? Just curious, because I've had a hard time painting over the automotive base/clear colors with Rustoleum, but maybe after months of curing it's ok?

Tom - u went above and beyond with providing my first set so I figured I would keep them and paint them. I had no problem painting over the Python Green - I used brilliant blue which is a very close match to Shark Blue πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™

This was a HUGE help!! Thank you!!! I ended up cutting the USB supply off and splicing it into the power supply and ground. A little extra work but turned out fine. Def needs to be reworked on Dongar's end.
